Solve the Shakespeare Anthology puzzle in Silent Hill 3's My Bestsellers Bookstore. Includes solutions for Easy, Normal, and Hard difficulties.
Walkthrough
- 1Examine the shelf where books have fallen. Heather will wonder if the books should be aligned in order.
- 2Check for a clue written beside the door, which may appear depending on your riddle level (Easy, Normal, or Hard).
- 3Refer to the clues and solutions below for each difficulty.
Easy Difficulty:
- No clue will be present by the back door.
- Examine the books on the shelf where the others fell; you will see numbers drawn on their spines, but two are missing.
- Place SHAKESPEARE ANTHOLOGY 1 in the first slot.
- Use the cursor to select the next book in the blue box, SHAKESPEARE ANTHOLOGY 3, and place it in the open third slot.
- This will reveal the complete code, which is random each time.
Normal Difficulty:
- The clue by the door reads: "Fair is foul, and foul is fair. Put these books out of order."
- Arrange the five books (SHAKESPEARE ANTHOLOGY 1 through 5) on the shelf in a random order, not their numbered sequence, to reveal partial numbers on their spines.
- Note where the code on different books potentially lines up.
- Place the books beside each other, slowly revealing the code until you can assemble it in the correct order.
- Click a book to remove it and add it back from the small box in the corner.
- Once done, the randomized code will be displayed.
Hard Difficulty:
- This riddle requires outside knowledge of Shakespeare's works contained within the anthologies.
- Examine each anthology in your inventory to identify the Shakespeare work it contains:
- Shakespeare Anthology 1: Romeo and Juliet
- Shakespeare Anthology 2: King Lear
- Shakespeare Anthology 3: Macbeth
- Shakespeare Anthology 4: Hamlet
- Shakespeare Anthology 5: Othello
- The riddle provides verses that describe the plots of these works. You must place the books on the shelf in the order corresponding to the descriptions.
- The first verse, "In here is a tragedy--- art thou player or audience? Be as it may, the end doth remain: all go on only toward death," serves as an introduction.
- The verse "The first words at thy left hand: a false lunacy, a madly dancing man. Hearing unhearable words, drawn to a beloved's grave---and there, mayhap, true madness at last" describes the plot of Hamlet. Place SHAKESPEARE ANTHOLOGY 4 in the first slot.
- The verse "As did this one, playing at death, find true death at the last. Killing a nameless lover, she pierced a heart rent by sorrow" describes the plot of Romeo and Juliet. Place SHAKESPEARE ANTHOLOGY 1 in the second slot.
- Continue to decipher the remaining verses to determine the correct order for SHAKESPEARE ANTHOLOGY 2 (King Lear), SHAKESPEARE ANTHOLOGY 3 (Macbeth), and SHAKESPEARE ANTHOLOGY 5 (Othello). The final order is SHAKESPEARE ANTHOLOGY 4, 1, 2, 3, 5.
Tips
- On Easy, the missing numbers on the spines will help you deduce the code.
- On Normal, pay close attention to how the partial numbers on the spines align when books are placed next to each other.
- On Hard, carefully read each verse and match it to the corresponding Shakespearean play you identified in your inventory. The order of the verses dictates the order of the books.
