Master Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn's Legacy of Bhaal difficulty. Learn about enemy boosts, party creation, essential tips, and a shortened walkthrough for Chateau Irenicus and Mae'Var's Guildhall.
Walkthrough
- 1Chateau Irenicus: Prepare for a tough start against Goblins and Mephits. Use spells like Wraithform to counter basic melee attackers. While Stoneskin may not last, Wraithform offers significant protection. Otyughs are a challenge, but traps can help with enemies like Lesser Clay Golems and Frennedan. Consider skipping the vampire fight if necessary.
- 2Mae'Var's Guildhall: Recruit Edwin early to leverage his powerful summoning abilities. In the Temple District, undertake the Unseeing Eye and Sir Sarles quests, and steal the Necklace of Talos from Mistress Ada. Obtain a magic license from Corneil in the Government District and pickpocket the Ring of the Ram from Tolgerias. Use invisibility to bypass Mephits and Stone Golems in the Docks District before assassinating Rayic Gethras. When confronting Mae'Var, use invisibility to avoid the guildhall's hostile Thieves and proceed directly to the basement. Set up a killing zone at the top of the basement room to lure Mae'Var and his crew, then engage them with area-of-effect spells and abilities.
Tips
- Summoned Allies: Summoned creatures have doubled HP plus 20, making them very durable. The Wand of Monster Summoning is highly recommended. While low-level summoning spells are weak, Spider Spawn, Wyvern Call, Elementals, Devas, and especially Planetars are powerful.
- Low-Level Threats: Goblins, Orcs, Kobolds, and Mephits are disproportionately dangerous on LoB difficulty. Wraithform can grant immunity to basic melee attacks for a good duration, and Minor Globe of Invulnerability can negate damage from Mephits.
- Hitting Difficult Enemies: For enemies like rakshasas and demons, consider using the Critical Strike HLA. Potions of Giant Strength, Heroism, and Power can also improve your chances of landing hits.
- Instant-Kill & Disabling Weapons: Weapons that inflict instant death are invaluable. Azuredge can be purchased or stolen early. The Improved Mace of Disruption can be forged soon after. The Silver Sword is a worthwhile late-game acquisition. The Rod of Smiting is effective against troublesome golems.
- On-Hit Effects: Weapons like Celestial Fury and Pixie Prick have a good chance of applying disabling effects on hit. Weapons with a chance for a no-save debuff, such as Flail of Ages and the Short Sword of Mask, are also strong choices. Celestial Fury and Flail of Ages are top-tier regardless of difficulty.
- Random Encounters: Most random encounters during travel can be avoided by moving to the area exit. These fights are time-consuming and difficult on LoB. The exception is the early encounter with Renfeld's attackers, which leads to a rewarding quest.
- Travel Strategy: Travel around Athkatla during daylight hours to avoid many random encounters, particularly those involving Vampires.
