Athkatla: Loose Ends

Improved Mace of Disruption: Take the Mace of Disruption and Illithium Ore to Cromwell in the Docks District to forge the Mace of Disruption +2.

Kangaxx the Demilich: Before re-entering Kangaxx's cellar in the Docks District, prepare spells such as Death Ward, Spell Immunity, and Melf's Minute Meteors on your casters. Ensure you have +4 or better weapons. Recommended weapons include the Staff of Rhynn, Staff of the Magi, Sling of Everard, Carsomyr, Cloak of Stars (for +5 Darts), Flametongue, The Daystar, Mace of Disruption +2, and the Short Sword of Mask and Firetooth Crossbow. Summoned Fire Elementals and Melf's Minute Meteors are effective attacks. The Ring of the Ram can be used against the first form.

Kangaxx's Second Form Protections: To protect against Kangaxx's Imprisonment spell, use Spell Immunity: Abjuration, the Berserk state of a Berserker, a Protection From Undead scroll, or a Protection From Magic scroll.

Preparing for Kangaxx: If Korgan is in your party, equip him with The Daystar or the Mace of Disruption +2. Rest at the Sea's Bounty to memorize necessary spells.

Entering Kangaxx's Cellar: Go next door to Kangaxx's Cellar. Cast Protection From Evil and Remove Fear. Set any traps near Kangaxx's sarcophagus. Interact with the sarcophagus to begin the encounter.

First Form of Kangaxx: Kangaxx will start with Remove Magic. After destroying his first form (Sunray is effective), quickly apply protections against Imprisonment.

Second Form of Kangaxx (Demilich): Ensure only protected party members are near Kangaxx to avoid Imprisonment. If a protected character is targeted, the spell will fail. Kangaxx uses Demilich Howl, an instant death attack; have a Cleric cast Death Ward on your PC if they are engaged in melee. Casters using Melf's Minute Meteors from a distance should be safe. Kangaxx is damage resistant, but with multiple damage sources, he will be defeated within a few rounds.

Reward for Kangaxx: You will earn 55000 XP and the Battle for the Ages trophy. Search Kangaxx's remains for the Ring of Gaxx.

The Twisted Rune: Go to the building with the mystery door in the western part of the Bridge District. Make a hard save. Apply buffs outside: Death Ward, Protection From Fire, Protection From Evil, and Remove Fear.

Entering The Twisted Rune: Click on the doorway to be transported to another area with no apparent exit.

Shangalar Encounter: Set traps in the small entry room. Cast Cloudkill into the next room to trigger the arrival of the Lich, Shangalar. Answer him as you wish, but combat will ensue. Shangalar will teleport to the smaller room where traps and Sunray can defeat him (50000 XP).

Vaxall and Rayenne: A Beholder named Vaxall and a human Fighter named Rayenne will arrive. Rayenne is not a threat as he is unequipped. Vaxall will take damage from Cloudkill. Send a summoned Skeleton Warrior towards Vaxall and position the party member with the Shield of Balduran to draw Vaxall's fire.

Vampire Shyressa: After Vaxall and Rayenne are defeated, use your Skeleton Warrior to draw the Vampire Shyressa, who will not survive long against the Mace of Disruption.

Layenne Encounter: A powerful Mage named Layenne is the final enemy. If she summons a powerful demon, it may turn on her. Otherwise, use Breach to remove her combat protections and then defeat her.

Acquiring the Staff of the Magi: The Staff of the Magi is found on Layenne. It is excellent for any Mage character, especially a Mage/Thief or Fighter/Mage/Thief, as it grants invisibility upon equipping. Note that backstabbing is not possible with the staff, and using it on an enemy affected by Feeblemind will dispel the effect.

Exiting The Twisted Rune: Drop the Beholder's Eye (obtained from Vaxall) into the cauldron in the northeast. Interact with the machine in the other corner to return.
