Follow our comprehensive Fallout 3 walkthrough for 'The Trouble With Tribals' quest in Point Lookout. Includes detailed steps for Coastal Grotto, Herzog Mine, Miner's Rest, and more.
Walkthrough
- 1Coastal Grotto: Fast travel to Haley’s Hardware. Head north across the river and follow the coast northeast along the higher ground. Discover the Coastal Grotto area and enter. You may also discover Herzog Mine along the way.
- 2Herzog Mine: From the entrance, head north to find a path west. Loot an ammo box to the north. Continue east, disarming a tripwire. Pass creepy doll heads and metal shelves with Buffout and Dirty Water. Loot ammo boxes in a cart and on the ground. Disarm bear traps and turn north between boulders. A floodlight will activate a pitching machine and grenade bouquet; wait for the explosions. Continue north to a mine track and follow it west.
- 3Miner’s Rest: Follow the tracks west and turn northwest, looting an ammo box. You will reach the entrance to “Miner’s Rest.” Head mostly west through a doorway. At a split path, avoid the irradiated water to the northwest and go south. Head up a ramp into a shelter to find Kenny. Speak to Kenny. You can either pass a Speech check or agree to find his “Kenny-Bear.”
- 4Rescuing Kenny-Bear: Backtrack to the four-way split and take the northern path through a doorway to find the Blackdamp Shaft entrance. Head north along the track until it terminates. Continue north to find a mine shaft you can drop down. Land on ledges to safely descend. Search the area where you land to find Kenny-Bear.
- 5Back Through the Blackdamp Shaft: Grab Kenny-Bear and head east. The area contains Swamplurks and their eggs. Continue east until you must turn north, go up a ramp, then turn southwest. You may find the remains of Old Man Hezrog. Turn northwest and scramble onto rocks, then turn southwest and drop into water. Defeat any crabs and head up a ramp to the southwest, turning southeast, then east into tunnels to return to the beginning of the level. Reunite Kenny and Kenny-Bear. You can now use the cots to rest, loot, and stash gear. Take the ladder up to Point Lookout to get the map marker for “Kenny’s Cave.”
- 6Ghoul Ecology: Head east-northeast to find “The Ark & Dove Cathedral” and discover it. Travel west from the cathedral and descend a cliff face to find the Coastal Grotto. Enter and head west down a tunnel, then south to find Plik. Before talking to Plik, enter the door to the right. Read Plik’s Journal on the table to get the “Ghoul Ecology” perk (which incorrectly provides a damage bonus against all enemies, not just Ghouls). Loot the Mini Nuke and other items.
- 7Talking to Plik: Speak with Plik, who offers a Ghoul safari for 1,000 Caps. Agree to participate and pay the fee. Head through the south door to Plik’s Safari.
- 8Plik’s Safari: Head southwest to find a cage of Ghouls, then turn northwest and cross a bridge.
