Learn how to hunt Sabertusks, understand combat mechanics like awareness meters and Warp Strikes, and discover the benefits of camping and Elemancy in Final Fantasy XV's Hammerhead.
Walkthrough
- 1Talk to the restaurateur at Hammerhead to start the "Howling Winds of Hunger" hunt.
- 2Leave Hammerhead and head north-east into the wilderness to find seven Sabertusks.
- 3Engage the Sabertusks. Note the enemy awareness meter (red bar). Use R1/RB to lock on and Triangle/Y for a pre-emptive Warp Strike. Press Circle/B to attack or hold for a chain attack. Hold Square/X for a defensive stance (uses MP). Press Circle/B for an evasive roll. Use the directional pad to switch weapons and spells.
- 4After the battle, understand Battle Fatigue: if knocked to zero HP, you enter a near-death state where you can crawl. Maximum HP depletes when compromised; use Potions to heal HP and Elixirs to restore maximum HP. Normal damage recovers quickly out of battle, lost maximum HP recovers slowly.
- 5Head north-west to find a camping site (haven) on a plateau. Interact with the glowing circle to Camp or Train (spar with Gladiolus for EXP/AP).
- 6Understand the time system: check the 24-hour clock near the mini-map. Travel at night (20:00 - 24:00) is dangerous due to daemons.
- 7Camping grants two major bonuses: all gathered experience is applied to level up characters, and Ignis can cook a meal for buffs starting the next day. You also gain AP when resting.
- 8Find elemental deposits (glowing rock formations) near havens. Hold X/A to absorb elements (fire, ice, lightning). Deposits recharge.
- 9Craft spells via the Menu - Elemancy screen. Select your Magic Flask, then choose an element and the amount of elemental energy to use. Higher potency can evolve spells (e.g., Fire to Fira). You can mix elements to craft spells.
Tips
- Use Warp Strike (R1/RB + Triangle/Y) to initiate combat with an advantage.
- Hold Circle/B for continuous attacks or Square/X for a defensive stance that consumes MP.
- Be aware of your maximum HP; use Elixirs to restore it when depleted.
- Seek campsites before nightfall (20:00) to avoid dangerous daemons.
- Camping levels up your party and provides beneficial meals cooked by Ignis.
- Elemental deposits provide the energy needed to craft spells in the Elemancy menu.
- Spell potency is determined by the amount of elemental energy used during crafting.
