Learn about Dungeon Keeper Lair construction, creature happiness, and which creatures cannot share a Lair.
The Lair is a vital building in Dungeon Keeper where your creatures rest to regain energy. Without a Lair, your creatures will quickly become unhappy. Each tile in the Lair costs 100 gold and provides 1000 research value. The shortcut key to access the Lair menu is Shift + L.
While each creature claims one tile in the Lair for their home, larger creatures like Dragons occupy four tiles. Some levels may require you to build two separate Lairs because certain creatures will not coexist peacefully in the same Lair. The following creature pairings must always be housed in separate Lairs:
- Fly and Spider
- Hell hound and Demon Spawn
- Warlock and Vampire
- Skeleton and Bile Demon
- Samurai and Dark Mistress
The simplest method to prevent conflict is to construct two distinct Lairs, assigning each incompatible creature type to its own Lair.
- Be aware that larger creatures like Dragons consume more Lair space.
- Plan your Lair construction carefully in levels where specific creatures must be separated.
- Ensure all your creatures have access to a Lair to maintain their happiness.
