Learn how to summon, manage, and keep your Horned Reapers happy in Dungeon Keeper. Discover their strengths, weaknesses, and how to prevent them from going psycho.

The Horned Reaper is Dungeon Keeper's physically strongest creature, immune to lava and excelling in combat. However, they perform poorly in all other jobs, cannot manufacture, and do not form groups in the Barracks. They are extremely easy to annoy and will go psychotic, killing anything in their path when angered.

Horned Reapers are only good for fighting, capable of defeating any creature or hero in one-on-one combat. They are vulnerable to magical attacks like Freeze or a rebounded Slow spell due to lacking magical protection.

Summoning a Horned Reaper:

To obtain a Horned Reaper, sacrifice the following creatures in a Temple fountain (3x3 or larger):

  • 1 Bile Demon
  • 1 Dark Mistress
  • 1 Troll

The Horned Reaper's level will be approximately the average of the three sacrificed creatures.

Managing Horned Reapers:

Horned Reapers are easily annoyed by many actions, including eating, researching, sleeping, doing nothing, or being picked up. Three things make them happy:

  • Giving them money (only effective if they are not yet psychotic).
  • Letting them walk around the Temple fountain to cool down.
  • Death: Having them fight or stand on dead creatures (friend or foe).

If you have a Temple, keeping them there at all times prevents trouble. If not, ensure you give them at least 10 gold when you receive the message "Your creatures are getting angry!". Giving them gold before they go psycho prevents issues. The "Must Obey" spell can prevent them from acting out when annoyed, but they will still go psycho if still annoyed when the spell is removed.

Tips for Summoning and Training:

Horned Reapers are terrible at non-combat tasks. Keep your Bile Demon, Mistress, and Troll until research is complete. Sacrifice them at high levels to get a high-leveled Reaper, which is cheaper than training. Training a Horned Reaper costs 150 gold and is slow, while training the sacrificed creatures costs 38 + 24 + 12 = 74 gold. Wait until you are ready for combat to perform the sacrifice. A "Resurrect Creature" special might allow you to retrieve one of the original sacrificed creatures.
