Obel Lake Quest

Fly to Obel Lake (north of Timber). Head to a rounded peninsula and repeatedly mash the [TALK/CONFIRM] button. Choose to 'Try humming' and hum multiple times. A creature will surface. After it leaves, repeat the process until the creature asks for a favor. Select 'What is it?' to learn you need to find its friend, Mr. Monkey.

Fly north to Dollet, then west to a forest. Find the monkey and choose 'Throw a rock'. Head deeper into the forest, find the monkey again, and choose 'Sing'.

Return to Obel Lake and hum repeatedly to get clues from the lake creature.

Fly back to Obel Lake. Mash [TALK/CONFIRM] along the peninsula and hum to the creature to relay Mr. Monkey's whereabouts. The creature will give you clues: "You’ll find something on an island east of Timber, too.", "At the beach in Balamb, something special washes ashore at times.", "There’s also something on top of a mountain with a lake and cavern.", and "Take some time off at Eldbeak Peninsula. I bet it’s a wonderful place.". Keep talking to it until you get all clues.

Interact with the edge of the lake and choose 'Throw a rock'. Repeat until you get the message "the rock skipped many many times.".

Return to the forest west of Dollet. Throw rocks at the monkey until it throws a rock back with the clue: U R H A E O.

Find the clue-rocks at these locations:

• Mandy Beach (East of Timber): Land on the island east of Timber. Run along the center heading southeast, mashing [TALK/CONFIRM] until you find the clue R E A I D R.

Balamb Beach: Fly to Balamb Island, land near the city, go to the beach, and run along the water's edge, mashing [TALK/CONFIRM] until you find the clue S T S L R M.

Mountain with Lake and Cavern (Near Deling City): Fly to Deling City, head southeast to a river. Follow the river north to a waterfall. Land on the rock formation where the river originates. Search the edge above the waterfall to find a bird's nest. Choose 'Check it out' and defeat the two Thrustaevis enemies. You will find the clue E A S N P D.

Return to Obel Lake. Hum to draw out the creature and talk to it until Squall shows all the rocks. The clues will be listed in this order: S T S L R M, U R H A E O, R E A I D R, E A S N P D.

Read the clues from right to left, top to bottom, to reveal the message: M O R D R E D P L A I N S H A S T R E A S U R E.

Fly to Esthar City, turn north, and fly over the mountains to reach Mordred Plains. Run around and mash [TALK/CONFIRM] to find rocks.

• Blue rocks: Establish ground rules, generally truthful.

Black rock: "…The treasure is probably in the direction of the North Star.“

White rock: Gives random directions.

Red rock: Actively lies; search in the opposite direction of its given directions.
