Learn how to junction status magic effectively and prepare for battles against Grats and T-Rexaurs in Final Fantasy VIII Remastered's Training Center.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Return to your dorm, change clothes, and save your game.
  2. 2
Head to the training ward, the only accessible area due to curfew.
  3. 3
Exit your dorm screen to the right and enter the first area to meet Quistis.
  4. 4
Quistis will provide a tutorial on status junctions, explaining how to junction magic to Status Attack and Status Defense for offensive or defensive effects.
  5. 5
After the tutorial, Quistis joins your party.
  6. 6
Strip GFs from Selphie and Zell and reassign them to Squall and Quistis.
  7. 7
Transfer magic from Selphie and Zell to Quistis, or refine more spells and junction them to her stats.
  8. 8
Follow Quistis's advice and junction Sleep to her Status Attack.
  9. 9
Proceed into the training center. You will find a fork in the path; both routes lead to the same area with a Save Point and a doorway to the north. The right path has a Blizzard Draw Point.
  10. 10
In this area, you will encounter Grats, which can inflict status effects like Sleep and Poison. You can draw Sleep and Silence magic from them.
  11. 11
You will also encounter T-Rexaurs, which are strong melee enemies. If you junctioned Sleep to Status Attack, you can keep them pacified. They have a lot of HP and can be defeated conventionally or Carded.
  12. 12
Make your way to the Save Point and head through the doorway to the north.
  13. 13
Quistis and Squall will have a conversation.
  14. 14
As you leave the training area, you will hear a cry for help.
Tips
  • Status-affecting spells like Blind, Death, Sleep, and Silence can be junctioned to Status Attack for a chance to inflict them on enemies, or to Status Defense to resist them. A full stack can provide a 100% chance.
  • Esuna grants a bonus to all resistances.
  • Junctioning Blind, Silence, Sleep, or Slow to a character can neutralize some enemies.
  • Drain can provide life leech, but is detrimental if the user is afflicted with Zombie status.
  • Death has a chance to kill an enemy outright.
  • Antidotes can be obtained by using Card Mod on Anacondaur cards to create Venom Fangs, and ST Med-RF on Venom Fangs to produce Antidotes.
  • Silence magic prevents enemies from using spells.
  • T-Rexaurs have a lot of HP (13,000-18,000 at levels 10-20) and decent attack power.
  • T-Rexaurs drop 10 AP upon defeat. Their spells are limited to Fire and Thunder unless above level twenty.
  • Quistis joins your party.
  • Access to the training center area with Grats and T-Rexaurs.
  • Potential to draw Blizzard, Sleep, and Silence magic.
