Your guide to beating The Proudclad in Final Fantasy XIII. Learn its weaknesses, phases, and the best strategies to overcome this challenging boss encounter.

Alright, you've made it to another encounter with The Proudclad! This guy's a tough one, so make sure your characters' equipment is set to 'offensive' and they've got at least 4000 HP. Trust me, you'll want that buffer.

Stats / Weaknesses:

• The Proudclad — LV 51 / 3,570,000 HP, 477 STR / 0 MAG, 150% Stagger, 70 Chain Resistance, 100,000 CP. Vulnerable to all elements (halved damage). Common Drop: Royal Armlet, Eden Pharmaceuticals. Rare Drop: None.

Phases:

1. Initial Phase: The Proudclad is immune to debuffs and halves elemental damage. Your goal here is to stagger it. Use paradigms like Ravager/Ravager/Ravager to build its Chain Gauge up to 450-500%. Once staggered, switch to a paradigm that deals heavy damage, like Commando/Commando/Commando.
2. Flying Form & HP Recovery: After the first stagger wears off, The Proudclad will enter a flying form. This is key: it becomes vulnerable to Deprotect and Deshell. However, it also recovers all of its HP! This is your cue to switch to a Medic-focused paradigm (like Medic/Medic/Medic) to heal up any damage you took. After healing, you'll need to alternate between offensive and healing paradigms as it unleashes powerful attacks like Muon Blaster, Oneiric Maelstrom, and Retaliatory Strike.
3. Second Flying Form & Final Push: Wait for The Proudclad to switch forms a couple of times. When it eventually returns to its flying form, switch to your heavy damage paradigm (Commando/Commando/Commando) to finish it off. Keep an eye on the timer before it switches back to its Annihilation mode.

Strategy:

• Gear Up: Seriously, get that HP over 4000 and optimize for offense. It makes a huge difference.
• Paradigm Shifts are Key: Don't get stuck in one setup. You'll need to fluidly switch between Ravagers to build stagger, Commandos to deal damage, and Medics to survive its powerful attacks.
• Exploit Vulnerabilities: Remember that Deprotect and Deshell are your friends when it's in its flying form.
• Patience Pays Off: Don't rush the initial stagger. Build it up properly to maximize your damage window.
• Post-Fight Reward: Defeating The Proudclad nets you the Eden Pharmaceuticals Key Item. This unlocks the thirteenth shop at the Save Point, where you can finally buy Librascopes, Fortisols, Aegisols, and Deceptisols. You won't need to use the Save Point itself, just head straight for the elevator.
