Navigate the Sunleth Waterscape in Final Fantasy XIII! Learn enemy weaknesses, optimal CP allocation for Vanille and Sazh, and how to defeat Flandragoras and Hedge Frogs.
Alright, welcome to the Sunleth Waterscape! It's a pretty area, but don't let that fool you – there are some tricky enemies and important decisions to make right off the bat. First things first, let's talk about spending that CP you've earned. You'll want to focus on Vanille's Ravager crystals, especially the top tier ones, to give her more combat flexibility. Long-term goals for her should include Poison (Saboteur), Esuna and Cura (Medic), and those last two Role Level upgrades.
For Sazh, prioritize his Accessory crystal and the Synergist Role Level. After that, work on his Blitz (Commando) abilities and grab any Strength boosts you can find to make his Commando attacks hit harder. Oh, and give Vanille a Tungsten Bangle to boost her HP. It's also a great time to create a new Paradigm: Undermine (SAB and RAV). This, combined with Dualcasting, is super effective against those Flandragoras we're about to meet, and most other enemies can be dealt with using Slash & Burn.
You'll enter the Sunleth Waterscape from the south, but there's nothing to see there, so head straight for the Flandragoras. These guys are a type of Flan, which means they're immune to Physical damage and, specifically for these Flandragoras, immune to Water too. Remember what we just discussed about the Undermine Paradigm and Dualcasting? Now's your chance to use it! After you've dealt with them, just hop from path to path, following the way forward.
You'll eventually run into some smaller enemies called Hedge Frogs. They're not too bad in small numbers, but watch out – they can cast Deprotect, which really weakens your party's defenses. If you encounter a larger group, they can become quite a nuisance. At the first fork in the path, you'll want to take the northern route. There are some Flandragoras guarding a Treasure Sphere up there that contains 8x Mysterious Fluid. Grab that, and then head back to the other path to continue on.
Keep pushing forward. You'll face a few more groups of Hedge Frogs and the occasional Flandragora blocking your way as you make your journey to the next area.
