Master the Environmental Regulation area in Final Fantasy XIII! Learn enemy strategies, find treasure spheres, and overcome traps with this expert walkthrough.

Alright, you've made it to the Environmental Regulation area in Chapter 5. The first thing you'll notice is a much-needed Save Station right as you enter. Keep your wits about you, though, because some of the barriers here are actually traps. Stepping into the wrong spot or opening a Treasure Sphere could trigger an ambush, so tread carefully as you move around.

On the left side of the area, you'll see a barrier. To get past it, head to one end and carefully edge around. Behind that forcefield, there's another Feral Behemoth waiting for you, along with a Sphere containing 1,500 Gil. There's also a small group of enemies hanging around nearby, but they're nothing to worry about. Just keep pushing forward, and you'll soon encounter a trio of Barbed Specters. Try to get a preemptive strike on them if you can – it makes the fight much easier.

Now, over in the right corner, there's a bit of a nasty surprise. As you approach an enemy party, a barrier will suddenly pop up behind you, cutting off your escape route. Your only option is to defeat the enemies to make it disappear. The catch? This group includes a Feral Behemoth and several Crawlers. Your best bet is to focus on taking out the Crawlers first, then heal up, and finally deal with the Behemoth. Your reward for this fight is 8x Fragrant Oils, which isn't the most exciting loot, but it's something. Grab it and keep moving.

You'll then come across a situation where a Behemoth is fighting two Lobos. This is a great opportunity for a preemptive strike and an easier battle. Make sure to take down the Lobos first before you focus your attention on the big Behemoth. Don't rush to the next waypoint just yet – instead, hang a left. You'll find another ambush waiting for you, this time featuring a Feral Behemoth and a Barbed Specter. They're guarding a Watchman’s Amulet, so it's definitely worth the fight. A preemptive strike here will make this encounter a breeze. Once you've dealt with them, head up the stairs and then take the elevator down to continue your journey.
