Master the Rain-spotted Vale in Final Fantasy XIII! Learn how to manipulate weather orbs, defeat tough enemies like Scalebeasts, and find valuable treasures like the Metal Armband and Aqua Ring.
Alright, welcome to the Rain-spotted Vale! This area's got a bit of a puzzle built into it with these climate-controlling orbs. Knowing when to switch the weather is key here, so pay attention to what's happening around you.
When it's rainy, you'll be dealing with Mud Frogs, Hedge Frogs, and Scalebeasts. If it's sunny, get ready for Wyverns and Flandragoras. Gremlins and Garchimaceras seem to show up no matter what, so keep an eye out for them.
- 1Don't mess with the first orb you see. Just push on ahead. You'll soon run into a fight with a Mud Frog and a couple of Hedge Frogs. Mud Frogs are pretty annoying because they have this 'Courtship Dance' that keeps summoning more Hedge Frogs. Seriously, focus on taking down the Mud Frogs first, otherwise, you'll be overwhelmed by endless reinforcements.
- 2At the second orb, switch the weather to dry. Then, you'll want to leap up the cliff to your right. This is way better than fighting two Mud Frogs! Instead, you'll face six Flandragoras. After you beat them, you can open a Sphere to get a Metal Armband.
- 3Head to the third orb and change the weather back to rainy. Take the left-hand path.
- 4Make sure you switch the weather back to dry at the fourth orb before you grab the treasure. The reward here is an Aqua Ring. Trust me, Flandragoras are way easier to handle than a Scalebeast plus a bunch of allies.
- 5Switch back to rain and you can actually run past the Scalebeast if you're not feeling up for that fight.
- 6At the final orb, it's probably best to change the conditions to dry. Yeah, it means you'll have three battles instead of two, but you'll avoid a really tough fight against four Mud Frogs.
- If you haven't maxed out the Role Levels for Vanille and Sazh yet, this area is a decent spot to grind. You can fight Flandragoras and Gremlins here to level them up.
Enemy Notes:
- Flandragora: Easy to get preemptive strikes on. They're immune to Physical and Water attacks but get Staggered pretty easily.
- Hedge Frog: Low HP, and they might cast Deprotect on you.
- Gremlin: Also has low HP. Watch out, because Fire magic can be really dangerous if you're facing a big group of them.
- Scalebeast: You can get easy preemptive strikes here. They have damage reduction or immunity until they're Staggered, making them pretty tough for this area.
- Mud Frog: Their Courtship Dance summons more Hedge Frogs, so prioritize killing them first.
