Learn where to find the Grimalkin Notorious Mark in Final Fantasy XVI, its attacks, recommended abilities, gear, and a strategy to defeat it.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
The hunt appears after the 'Out of the Shadow' main story quest.
  2. 2
Go to the Hunt Board in The Hideaway to accept the Grimalkin hunt.
  3. 3
Travel to The Cattery in Dhalmekia. The easiest route is from The Jaw Obelisk: head north, then east at the split, and take the first southern trail (western of two) in The Sickle.
  4. 4
Upon entering The Cattery, you will first face four waves of Wild Nakks (Level 28). Use area-of-effect abilities if available.
  5. 5
After defeating the Wild Nakks, Grimalkin will appear for a one-on-one fight.

Grimalkin's Attacks:

  • Claw Swipe: Lunge forward with a paw swipe. Dodge in any direction.
  • Spinning Attack: Hops in place then performs a spinning attack. Move away when it hops.
  • Lunge: Short hop back, then lunges forward. Easy to dodge.
  • Savage: Pounces with two claw swipes, followed by a lunge, then jumps back for a final lunging bite. The first two parts are quick; dodge the last one after a slight delay if hit.

Recommended Abilities:

  • Phoenix/Ifrit: Rising Flames (Damage 3, Will 2), Flames of Rebirth (Damage 3, Will 3)
  • Garuda: Gouge (Damage 2, Will 4), Wicked Wheel (Damage 2, Will 3)
  • Titan: Lightning Rod (Damage 2, Will 3), Raging Fists (Damage 3, Will 3)

Recommended Gear & Items:

  • Weapon: Enhancer
  • Belt: Drakeslayer’s Belt
  • Vambraces: Drakeslayer’s Bracelets
  • Accessories: Berserker Ring, Badge of Mettle +1, Cleric’s Medallion +1 (or Timely accessories for assistance)
  • Items: Potion, High Potion, Stoneskin Tonic

Strategy:

  • Grimalkin has a limited and predictable moveset with no special phases or changes upon staggering.
  • The 'Savage' attack is the most dangerous due to its quick initial hits. Time your dodges carefully, especially for the final lunge.
  • Use area-of-effect abilities against the initial waves of Wild Nakks.
  • The recommended ability setup balances damage and stagger, with abilities like Gouge and Wicked Wheel focusing on stagger. Lightning Rod can be used to bait Grimalkin's attacks.
