Discover how to get Renown in Final Fantasy XVI! Learn about The Patron's Whisper, Desiree, and all the rewards you can unlock with this green currency.
So, what exactly is Renown in FF16? You might know it as that green currency you get as a quest reward, but the game doesn't explain it much. Basically, it's the currency you earn for completing side quests, Hunts, and some main quests. You then use this Renown to unlock specific tiered rewards.
The Renown system in Final Fantasy XVI really opens up after you complete the main quest 'The Gathering Storm'. At this point, you'll gain access to the new Hideaway hub. Inside, The Patron's Whisper, which is like a shop for Renown rewards, becomes available. An NPC named Desiree runs this shop, so you'll need to speak with her whenever you want to grab new rewards. You can see all the known rewards that become available as your Renown increases in the table below.

As you can see above, there’s a title associated with each Renown threshold you reach, but this doesn't really change how you're viewed in-game. However, you'll find a note from various patrons associated with each reward bundle when you claim it, which adds a nice touch to the lore. You can view these whenever you speak with Desiree at The Patron’s Whisper, alongside the reward available for that specific threshold.
You won’t be able to see all the available rewards and messages at once when you speak with Desiree. They'll gradually become available as your Renown increases. Even if you don't plan on farming Renown via side quests or Hunts as you play through the main story, you'll likely get enough to at least grab the Berserker Ring, which is a useful accessory if you want to maximize your damage output after a Precision Dodge.
How to Earn Renown in FFXVI
Renown can be earned in FFXVI by completing Main Quests, Side Quests, and Hunts (also known as Notorious Marks). You can earn a decent amount from each of these tasks, and if you complete all of them, you should have enough to obtain all the rewards on offer at The Patron’s Whisper.
Not all of the rewards are essential, but there are plenty that you can make use of, and they only get better as you earn more Renown. Once you've obtained a specific amount of Renown, you can’t lose it, so the amount you earn will only go up. It increases in increments with each quest or Hunt you complete. Be sure to visit The Patron’s Whisper regularly to check whether you’ve earned enough Renown for the next set of rewards.
