Follow our guide to complete the Crystalline Lifeline side quest in Final Fantasy XVI. Learn where to find the Foul Crystal and defeat the Bog Crabs.
Alright, let's tackle the Crystalline Lifeline side quest in Final Fantasy XVI. This one's pretty straightforward, but you'll need to have made some progress in the main story first. Specifically, you need to have reached the Hideaway. If you're just starting out, that'll take you about 3 hours, or an hour if you're coming from the demo. Keep playing the main quest until you reach 'Holding On,' then head over to Martha's Rest in The Imperial Province of Rosaria. Look for a guy named Clarke, who's a fishmonger, and chat with him to kick things off.
Clarke's lost his crystal out in the marshes, so your job is to go find it. When you get to the area, you'll see a ladder. Climb down it, and you'll run into some Bog Crabs. Take them down! Before you get too deep into the quest, though, it's a good idea to explore the surrounding areas. You might find some chests with useful crafting materials and accessories. To make dealing with the crabs easier, try to group them up and use Clive's Flames of Rebirth ability to weaken them, or even take them out in one go. If you don't have that yet, Heatwave is a solid alternative.
After you've dealt with the crabs, the last one you defeat will drop the Foul Crystal. Grab it and head back to Clarke at Martha's Rest. Hand over the crystal, and you'll see him use it to cool down his fish – pretty neat! Once that's done, the quest wraps up, and you'll get 10 Wyrrite and 10 Magicked Ash, both handy for crafting.
