Complete the Breaking Even side quest in horizon forbidden west. Requires completing The Eye of the Earth and rewards 54002 XP.
Walkthrough
- 1Start the quest by talking to Porguf at Camp Nowhere (north of the Tallneck: The Stillsands) or by finding a gossip named Lora at a Campfire northwest of Stone’s Echo and hearing a rumor.
- 2Head to Camp Nowhere and speak with Porguf to get the quest details.
- 3Make your way southeast to the Spinebreak.
- 4Detonate Firegleam to create an opening in the wall, then turn east.
- 5Use your Pullcaster to remove a grate from the wall and crawl through the opening.
- 6Talk to an Oseram woman named Lunda.
- 7Continue east and scan the 'Safe' text datapoint.
- 8Proceed south and east, navigating rubble, until you reach a chamber with three Apex Tracker Burrowers and an Apex Spikesnout.
- 9Clear out the machines. You can lure them into the tunnel to the west if you want to use hit and run tactics, as they are unlikely to pursue you there.
- 10Loot the various caches in the room.
- 11Go up the ramp where the Spikesnout was and use your Pullcaster on a crumbling wall; it will take two attempts to break it down.
- 12Continue east and exit outside to find the source of the tunnel collapse.
- 13Prepare to fight a Rockbreaker.
- 14After defeating the Rockbreaker, loot Porguf’s Lockbox from a chest.
- 15Find another cache to obtain the Oseram Forester armor.
- 16Crawl under rubble on the eastern end of the Rockbreaker's area to reach the eastern Spinebreak.
- 17Proceed east until you find an obstruction. Shoot Blaze barrels nearby with a fire arrow to clear the passage.
- 18Return to Porguf to complete the quest.
Tips
- The Rockbreaker can be cheesed by staying on high ground, as its attacks have limited range and it cannot reach the surrounding rocky cliffs. You can use a Sharpshot Bow from a distance.
- The Rockbreaker is weak to Frost and Shock damage.
- Chillwater Canisters are available in the arena to craft ammo.
- Inflicting Frost damage will apply the Brittle debuff, amplifying all damage dealt.
- The best target on the Rockbreaker is the Exhaust Port on its back, which deals significant damage when hit. Shock damage can create clear shots at this port.
- The Rockbreaker's four Mining Claws take extra damage, can be removed to prevent burrowing, and are valuable upgrade components.
- The Rockbreaker's main attacks include burrowing and bursting from the sand, sometimes with a vertical lunge or horizontal splash, or spitting rocks from a distance.
- When the Rockbreaker spits rocks, run and wait for it to stop.
