Follow our comprehensive walkthrough for Horizon Forbidden West's 'The Embassy' main quest. Learn how to reach Barren Light, defeat Tenakth Rebels and the boss Grudda, and complete the mission.
Walkthrough
- 1Travel southwest to Barren's Light. You can ride a tamed Charger for faster travel.
- 2Once in Barren's Light, check the merchants for new weapons and armor. Note that the Slicing Shredder Gauntlet and Nora Sentinel armor require components you cannot acquire yet.
- 3You can also start the Side Quest 'Shadow From the Past', the Errand 'Signals of the Sun', and the Salvage Contract 'Keruf’s Salvage Unlimited', though the latter cannot be progressed much at this time.
- 4Talk to Lawan, then Nozar in Barren Light to proceed beyond the gate.
- 5Head southwest into the keep and optionally talk to Erend.
- 6Continue to the gate and talk to Lawan.
- 7Follow Lawan up ramps to find Nozar and Studious Vuadis. Talk to Nozar. Choose the option _”I’m going now.”_ to continue the quest or _”I’ll wait.”_ if you have unfinished business.
- 8Proceed beyond the gate and make your way west across a bridge.
- 9Confront the Tenakth and speak with Marshal Fashav. Exhaust his dialog options.
- 10Fashav will give you Fashav’s Token, marking the beginning of the embassy.
- 11Defend against the first wave of Tenakth Rebels mounted on Chargers. Aim for body shots to dismount riders, then finish them off. Target the Chargers' Horns and Blaze Canisters for extra damage.
- 12Be aware of archers on the ridge; use ruins for cover if necessary.
- 13Defeat enough foes to trigger the second wave, which includes enemies mounted on Bristlebacks. The strategy remains similar: dismount riders and target the Bristlebacks' Tusks and Acid Canisters.
- 14After defeating the second wave, you will face the boss, Grudda.
How to Defeat Grudda:
- Scan Grudda to understand his attacks.
- Grudda's attacks include: Melee Combo (wide sword sweeps), Shield Bash, Shockwave (electrical energy), Fire Bomb (incendiary grenade), and Explosive Bombs (cluster explosives).
- Dodge towards Grudda and to his side to get behind him and avoid his melee combos.
- Grudda's shield must be overloaded before you can damage him. A Warrior Bow is effective for quickly filling his shield with projectiles.
- Once the shield is overloaded and blinks off, target Grudda's head to break his mask. The hit area for the mask is smaller than it appears.
Tips
- Consider overriding a Charger near Chainscrape to ride to Barren's Light.
- Fast, indiscriminate shots from a Warrior Bow can quickly whittle down Grudda’s shield.
- When dodging Grudda's melee attacks, try to dodge towards him rather than away to better position yourself.
