Catch rare Pokemon in the Safari Zone in Pokemon Emerald. Learn about Pokemon availability, costs, and mechanics like Pokeblocks.
Walkthrough
- 1To enter the Safari Zone, you need $500.
- 2Upon entering, you receive 30 Poke Balls. Your time in the Safari Zone ends if you run out of Poke Balls or take 500 steps.
- 3The Safari Zone is divided into 6 areas (A-F). Areas E and F are inaccessible until after defeating the Elite Four. You begin in Area D.
- 4You cannot use your own Pokemon in the Safari Zone; catching Pokemon relies on luck and specific mechanics.
- 5Throwing rocks at Pokemon increases the chance of catching them but also their chance of running away.
- 6Throwing Pokeblocks can influence a Pokemon's behavior. Giving a Pokemon a Pokeblock it likes (e.g., a Dry Pokeblock to a Modest nature Pokemon) makes it stay longer. Giving it a disliked Pokeblock increases its chance of running away.
- 7Some grass patches have gray tiles where you can throw in Pokeblocks to attract specific Pokemon. For instance, a Dry Pokeblock increases the chance of finding Pokemon whose nature likes Dry Pokeblocks.
- 8Area D Pokemon: Oddish (Common), Girafarig (Common), Natu (Uncommon), Doduo (Uncommon), Wobbuffet (Uncommon), Pikachu (Rare), Gloom (Rare).
- 9Girafarig is a Psychic/Normal type with good speed.
- 10Doduo is a Normal/Flying type that evolves into Dodrio, offering good speed and attack.
- 11Natu is a Psychic/Flying type with poor stats and moves; evolving it into Xatu does not significantly improve it.
- 12Pikachu is a popular choice with good stats, evolving into Raichu with a Thunderstone. It may know Thunderbolt at levels in the mid to upper 20s.
- 13To reach Area C, head north and west from the guards blocking the path to Areas E and F. Go up a set of steps, then use the Acro Bike to hop across ledges to your right. Continue north and east until the signboard indicates you are in Area C.
- 14Area C Pokemon: Phanpy (Common), Oddish (Common), Natu (Uncommon), Gloom (Uncommon), Xatu (Rare), Heracross (Rare).
- 15Phanpy is a Ground-type that evolves into Donphan, learning Earthquake via leveling up.
- 16Heracross is a Bug/Fighting type, considered one of the game's best bug Pokemon. It learns Megahorn and has good speed, making it effective against Psychic Pokemon.
