Gym Information:

The Petalburg Gym specializes in Normal-type Pokemon. Effective types against Normal are Fighting and Rock. Avoid Pokemon with low defense.

The gym features a puzzle where each door leads to a new room with a trainer. After defeating the trainer, you can choose a door to proceed. The layout is as follows:

Start (X) -> Room 1 (Speed Room) -> Room 3 (Confusion Room) -> Room 6 (Strength Room) -> Gym Leader Norman

Start (X) -> Room 2 (Accuracy Room) -> Room 4 (Defense Room) -> Room 5 (Recovery Room) -> Room 7 (1 Hit KO Room) -> Gym Leader Norman

Trainer Battles:

  • Room 1 - SPEED ROOM: Cooltrainer Randall with a Level 26 Swellow (Normal/Flying). Money: $1248. Uses speed moves like Agility. Recommended: Electric or Rock Pokemon.
  • Room 2 - ACCURACY ROOM: Cooltrainer Mary with a Level 26 Delcatty (Normal). Money: $1248. Opponent uses moves that never miss.
  • Room 3 - CONFUSION ROOM: Cooltrainer Parker with a Level 26 Spinda (Normal). Money: $1248. Uses moves that cause confusion. Recommended: Full Heals or a Yellow Flute.
  • Room 4 - DEFENSE ROOM: Cooltrainer Alexia with a Level 26 Wigglytuff (Normal). Money: $1248. Opponent uses moves that increase defense. Wigglytuff has high HP but low defense.
  • Room 5 - RECOVERY ROOM: Cooltrainer George with a Level 26 Slakoth (Normal). Money: $1258. Opponent recovers health when low.
  • Room 6 - STRENGTH ROOM: Cooltrainer Jody with a Level 26 Zangoose (Normal). Money: $1248. Uses moves like Swords Dance to boost attack. Zangoose can be dangerous with boosted attack. Defeat quickly.
  • Room 7 - 1 HIT KO ROOM: Cooltrainer Berke with a Level 26 Vigoroth (Normal). Money: $1248. Opponent attempts one-hit knockouts, often using Slash. Recommended: Faster Pokemon with high defenses, like Golem.

Gym Leader Norman's Pokemon:

  • Spinda, Level 27 (Normal)
  • Vigoroth, Level 27 (Normal)
  • Linoone, Level 29 (Normal)
  • Slaking, Level 31 (Normal)
Tips
  • Fighting-type Pokemon like Machamp or Hariyama are highly recommended against Norman's Normal-type Pokemon.
  • Rock-type Pokemon such as Graveler/Golem and Lairon are also effective due to their high Defense, taking only half damage from Normal attacks.
  • Norman's Spinda may use confusion moves; a Yellow Flute can help.
  • Vigoroth has the Vital Spirit ability, preventing sleep, and high attack and speed. Defeat it quickly.
  • Linoone may use Belly Drum, maxing its attack and halving its HP, making it vulnerable.
  • Norman's Slaking has a massive attack stat and good defense but is hindered by its Truant ability, allowing it to attack only every other turn. Exploit this downtime.
