Your guide to the Fiery Path in Pokemon Emerald! Discover Torkoal, Machop, and TM06 Toxic, and learn how to navigate the cave's puzzles.

Alright, so you're heading into the Fiery Path in Pokemon Emerald. It's not super complicated, but there are a few things to keep an eye out for. Think of it as a quick pit stop to grab some useful stuff and maybe catch a new buddy.

What you'll find here:

  • Pokemon: Numel, Koffing, Torkoal, Machop, Slugma, Grimer.
  • Items: TM06 Toxic, a Fire Stone (later).
  • Obstacles: Boulders requiring Strength.

Pokemon Breakdown:

  • Torkoal: This Fire-type is pretty solid, especially with its high Defense. It can take a beating and learns some good moves. Definitely worth considering if you need a Fire-type for the long haul.
  • Machop: A great Fighting-type. It evolves into Machoke at level 28 and then Machamp via trading. It's got good stats and can learn some awesome moves.
  • Koffing & Grimer: These are Poison-types. While they have their uses, Poison isn't the most popular type, and they have weaknesses to deal with. Probably not the best long-term additions to your team.
  • Slugma: Honestly, you can probably skip this one. It's slow, and its evolution, Magcargo, becomes part Rock-type, adding more weaknesses without a significant attack boost.
  • Numel: A common find, but not super remarkable on its own.

Navigating the Fiery Path:

As soon as you enter, you'll notice there are no trainers. Sweet! Just keep heading north through the cave. About halfway through, you'll spot a boulder. You'll need the Strength HM to move it, so you can't get past it just yet. You'll have to come back after beating Flannery, the Gym Leader in Lavaridge City, to get the badge that lets you use Strength outside of battle.

Once you have Strength, head back. You'll be able to move those boulders. There's a path that splits – one goes up, the other goes down. Take the north path first. Pushing through here will lead you to TM06: Toxic. This is a fantastic move; almost any Pokemon can learn it, and it poisons the opponent, dealing increasing damage each turn. It's super effective, so grab it!

After getting Toxic, head back to the split and take the south path. Move the boulders here, and you'll find a Fire Stone. We'll save using that for another time, but it's good to know where it is. Once you've explored everything you can, just leave the Fiery Path through the north exit.
