Herbalist Challenges

Complete all 10 Herbalist Challenges in red dead redemption 2, from picking Yarrow to crafting poison weapons and cooking seasoned meat.

Challenge 1:

1. Find and pick 6 Yarrow plants. These are common around Valentine and can be identified by their red appearance. Head south of Valentine and use Eagle Eye to highlight nearby plants.

Challenge 2:

1. Find the four types of berries: Red Raspberry, Blackberry, Evergreen Huckleberry, and Wintergreen Berry. Sample one of each. These can be found in many locations across the map.

Challenge 3:

1. Craft seven items using Sage as an ingredient at your camp. Oleander Sage does not count. Stockpile Hummingbird Sage (found in Black Bone Forest, West Elizabeth) and either Burdock Root or Common Bullrush (found along the Dakota River west of Valentine). Craft either Potent Biters or Potent Horse Stimulants.

Challenge 4:

1. Feed your horse five mushrooms. Bay Bolete mushrooms can be found in Black Bone Forest. Mount your horse, open the Weapon Wheel (L1/LB), switch to the Horse section, and feed the mushrooms.

Challenge 5:

1. Craft 9 items using Indian Tobacco, such as Potent Snake Oil. Indian Tobacco is very common. If needed, find more in Black Bone Forest.

Challenge 6:

1. Forage and pick 15 different plants. Plant type does not matter. Black Bone Forest, Cumberland Forest, and the swamps around Saint Denis have a good variety.

Challenge 7:

1. Gather ingredients to craft five Special Miracle Tonics: 30 Yarrow (found east of Valentine oilfields), 30 Burdock Roots (found along riverbanks), and 30 Currants (Black Currants near Annesburg, or Golden Currants in the plains around Beecher’s Hope post-game).
2. Complete the mission 'A Short Walk in a Pretty Town'.
3. Head to a Fence to buy the Special Miracle Tonic recipe. Read the recipe to learn it.
4. Erect a camp in the wilderness and craft the five Special Miracle Tonics. Drink them to complete the challenge.

Challenge 8:

1. Craft 6 poison-based weapons. Poison Throwing Knives are the easiest.
2. Head to a Fence and max out your Throwing Knives, purchasing the recipe if you don't have it.
3. Gather at least six Oleander Sage (found around the swamps of Saint Denis and Rhodes).
4. Set up camp and craft the Poison Throwing Knives.

Challenge 9:

1. Pick at least one of all 43 plants in the game. This is best tackled during the post-game.
2. Elusive herbs can be found in New Austin (around Blackwater and Armadillo).
3. Undertake Algernon Wasp’s Stranger Mission, 'Duchesses and Other Animals', as each step requires tracking down exotic orchids.
4. If you have trouble finding a specific plant, check the 'Plants' section in the Compendium.

Challenge 10:

1. Cook each type of meat and apply a seasoning. Seasoning is done by pressing left or right on the D-Pad when selecting the recipe.
2. Obtain the following meats:
• Exotic Bird Meat
• Pork (Purchase from any Butcher and cook)
• Plump Bird Meat (Hunt any Chicken, Turkey, or Goose)
• Big Game Meat
• Prime Beef (Purchase from any Butcher and cook)
• Succulent Fish Meat
