Follow our guide to complete The Sheep and the Goats mission in Red Dead Redemption 2. Learn how to herd sheep, get headshots, and achieve a Gold Medal.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
After the "Pouring Forth Oil" mission, find John in Valentine.
  2. 2
Follow John and enter the gunsmith to obtain the Rolling Block Rifle.
  3. 3
Mount your horse and follow John to the lookout point.
  4. 4
Shoot the ground near the ranchers with the Sniper Rifle to scare them off. Repeat for the final rancher.
  5. 5
Head down to the 15 sheep and herd them back to the auction yard by riding behind them and pressing [L2]/[LT] and [O]/[B] to hurry them.
  6. 6
Herd any stragglers (indicated by yellow markers on the radar) back to the flock.
  7. 7
Once all sheep are returned, go to the Saloon in town to meet Dutch.
  8. 8
Leviticus Cornwall will appear. When you gain control of John, slowly press [R2]/[RT] to fill the circle, then draw and take out the enemy holding John.
  9. 9
Engage in the ensuing shootout, aiming for headshots and maintaining at least 70% accuracy. Use Dead Eye on the first group of enemies.
  10. 10
Move towards the wagon with the remaining enemies. Watch for enemies behind you and prioritize those on balconies.
  11. 11
After Strauss is shot, clear enemies to the right and one on top of the Stables before escorting Strauss to Dutch and John.
  12. 12
As others escape, stay behind cover in Valentine to get more headshots if needed.
  13. 13
Mount your horse and escape the red circle by galloping away from Valentine, using the river to evade the law.
Tips
  • To achieve the Gold Medal, you must herd all sheep into the pen in Valentine, get 25 headshots, complete the mission with at least 70% accuracy, and complete the mission without taking any health items.
  • Yellow markers on the radar indicate sheep that have strayed from the flock.
  • Use Dead Eye to easily score headshots during the shootout.
  • Prioritize shooting enemies on balconies and those to your right before picking up Strauss.
  • If you need more headshots for the Gold Medal, you can stay in Valentine after the others escape to take out more enemies.
  • Escape the red circle by riding away from Valentine as fast as possible; the river is a good escape route.
