The Forgotten

Follow our step-by-step guide to complete The Forgotten sidequest in Horizon Zero Dawn. Find Brom, examine clues, and make crucial dialogue choices.

Hey there! So, you're looking to tackle 'The Forgotten' sidequest in Horizon Zero Dawn? It's a pretty interesting one, and it starts just north of Mother's Watch. You know, that outpost west of the Ruins? Keep an eye out for a Scrapper site marked on your map. Between that site and the campfire to its east, you'll find a big rock formation. If you listen closely, you'll hear someone screaming for help. That's your cue!

To get up to her, you'll need to climb. The southern side has some handy footholds. Once you reach her, you'll learn that her brother, Brom, was exiled from the tribe but his sentence is up and he hasn't come back. Naturally, you offer to help find him. Your first stop? His camp, which is located to the west.

When you get close to Brom's camp, you'll notice two Watchers patrolling. Best to take them out quietly before you head into the small camp. Once inside, walk up to the campfire and examine it when prompted. This is where your Focus comes in handy. You'll need to track a trail, so bring it out by pressing R3. Look for a distinct purple trail. Once you spot it, press R1 to track it. This means you'll be able to see the trail even without your Focus active, which is super helpful.

The trail will lead you up a small path to a knife. Examine it, and then continue tracking the trail from there to the next clue – a bucket. Keep following this trail; it's a bit longer this time and will lead you all the way to a shrine just outside Mother's Watch. Along the way, you'll run into some Scrappers. Deal with them, and then examine the Watcher that one of the Scrappers was salvaging. The trail from this Watcher will point you towards the top of some rocks where you'll find supplies. Make sure to loot these supplies as you go – you can snag a Fast Travel Pack and a Full Health Potion!

Eventually, you'll need to climb another rock formation. At the very top, you'll find Brom, looking a bit… troubled, talking to himself. You'll be given a choice of what to say to him. Don't stress too much about this first choice; any option will get Brom to step back from the edge and listen to you. For a safer bet, try the 'HEART' option. The really important choice comes next, when Olara shows up. To get the best outcome, where both family members reconcile and head off together, pick the bottom dialogue option twice. You'll also get a nice little close-up of Aloy's satisfied smirk!
