Part 12 of our Kingdom Hearts II walkthrough guides you through the intense battle against Shan-Yu and the initial exploration of Beast's Castle, detailing items, enemies, and key areas.

Alright, Part 12! We're diving into a pretty intense boss fight here, followed by our first look at Beast's Castle. Let's get you through it.

Boss Fight: Shan-Yu

This guy is no joke. You'll want to go into Valor Form right away and just go all-out on him. If you've been leveling up your Drive Gauge, that extended time will be super helpful here. Your main goal is to keep the Heartless from breaking down the door behind you. Whenever they start to get too close, focus on defeating them because they actually drop orbs that reinforce the door. It's a balancing act – damage Shan-Yu, but don't let the Heartless win.

Pro-Tip: Mulan's Red Rocket Limit is amazing for clearing out a bunch of Heartless quickly if they start swarming the door. Use it!

• Level: 10

Phases:

1. The primary phase involves fighting Shan-Yu while Heartless attack the gate. You'll need to manage both threats.

Strategy:

• Enter Valor Mode immediately and attack Shan-Yu relentlessly.
• Keep an eye on the Heartless attacking the gate. Defeat them to drop orbs that reinforce it.
• Use Mulan's Red Rocket Limit to quickly clear out groups of Heartless near the gate.
• Utilize Reaction Commands (Triangle button) during the fight – they can make a big difference.
• Don't get careless! Letting the Heartless break down the door means you fail.

After you defeat Shan-Yu, you'll snag the [HIDDEN DRAGON] Keyblade. Nice! With The Land of Dragons complete, it's time to head through Stardust Sweep and make our way to Beast's Castle.

Beast's Castle - Initial Exploration

Welcome to Beast's Castle! After the initial cutscenes, you'll be thrown into a fight against a bunch of Shadows. Once you clear them out, the Beast himself will show up to help. After that, it's a good idea to hit up the Moogle Shop if you need anything. Then, head to the Entrance Hall. You'll encounter a new enemy type here – take care of it, and then exit into the Courtyard.

Hook Bat Enemy Details:

These Hook Bats fly around and have a swooping somersault attack, plus an ultrasonic blast. They aren't too hard to avoid, but hitting them can be trickier than dodging their attacks. Use the Reaction Command 'Bat Cry' to damage multiple enemies at once.

Courtyard Items & Enemies:

In the Courtyard, you'll find more Heartless, but also some helpful chests: a [HI-POTION] (2/21), a [MYTHRIL SHARD] (3/21), and an [AP BOOST] (1/21). Once you're done here, head back through the Entrance Hall and go up the stairs on the right. After a chat with Belle, you can open more chests containing the [CASTLE MAP] (4/21) and a [MEGA-RECIPE] (5/21).
