Learn how to start and complete the Family Matter assignment in Mass Effect: Legendary Edition. Get advice on convincing Michael and Rebekah for Paragon or Renegade points.

Alright, so you've gotten back to the Citadel after finishing up one of your main missions? Great! It's time to tackle a little side quest called 'Family Matter.' You'll want to head over to the Presidium, specifically the Financial District. Look for Michael and Rebekah – they're having a pretty intense discussion near the Bank. Go chat with them to get started.

Basically, Rebekah's husband just passed away, and she's worried about her unborn baby, wanting to give it the safest, best life possible. Michael, on the other hand, is focused on getting Gene Therapy to make sure there are no genetic issues down the line. Your job, as Commander Shepard, is to try and help them find some common ground and guide them toward a decision.

When you talk to them, you'll have a few dialogue choices. If you choose to side with Rebekah and say, “Let her choose.”, you’ll get a couple of follow-up options:

  • Saying “It’s still her choice.” uses 2 points of Charm. This makes Michael see reason and nets you +8 Paragon points.
  • Saying “You’re not helping.” uses 3 points of Intimidate. This is a more forceful approach with Michael and will earn you +9 Renegade points.

Alternatively, you can try to convince Rebekah that Gene Therapy is the best route. If you go with that and say, “Get the treatment.”, you’ll have these options:

  • Saying “It’s worth it.” uses 3 points of Charm. This convinces her to go for the treatment, giving the baby a better chance, and earns you +8 Paragon points.
  • Saying “Think of the child.” uses 2 points of Intimidate. This pushes her not to endanger the baby and will get you +9 Renegade points.

No matter which path you choose, as long as you help them reach some kind of resolution, you'll get some XP for completing the assignment. It’s a pretty straightforward one, mostly about navigating the dialogue!
