Your first steps in Mass Effect: Legendary Edition (ME1) start on the Normandy! Learn about early dialog choices, finding Codex entries, and your mission briefing.

Alright, let's get you started on the Normandy in Mass Effect: Legendary Edition! After the initial cutscenes, you'll find yourself on the bridge, ready to chat with Joker and Kaidan. This is your very first chance to influence your Commander Shepard's alignment, so pay attention!

When talking with Joker and Kaidan, you'll have a dialog wheel pop up. The top-right option, ”I agree.”, will net you Paragon +2. If you're feeling a bit more assertive, the bottom-right option, ”Cut the chatter!”, will give you Renegade +2. Just remember, the top options are usually Paragon-leaning and the bottom ones Renegade, but not always. Blue text means you're using Charm, and red text means Intimidate – these use your talents.

As you move down the hallway from the bridge, keep an eye out for an airlock on your right. You'll soon reach the Combat Information Center (CIC). Here, you can chat with Navigator Pressly. Exhausting his dialog options is a great way to snag some early Codex Entries, which give you XP. You'll also find tables detailing your Paragon/Renegade gains and the Codex Entries you can unlock here.

Keep going past the CIC until you overhear Corporal Jenkins and Doctor Chakwas arguing. Jenkins is all gung-ho, while Chakwas is advocating caution. Your response here matters! Choosing ”Relax Jenkins.” grants Paragon +2, while ”Part of the job, Doc.” gives you Renegade +2. Again, chat with them until you've exhausted all their dialog to get another Codex Entry.

Next, head into the Communications Room. You'll meet Nihlus, who's sizing you up, and then Captain Anderson arrives. He'll drop the bombshell: this isn't just a routine mission. After Anderson fills you in and you've asked all your questions, a transmission from Eden Prime will change everything. Your mission is now much more serious, and it's your big chance to impress Nihlus.

Once you're done talking with Anderson, you'll be deployed to Eden Prime. You'll also pick up some final Codex Entries related to Protheans and the Terminus Systems before you head out.

Tips
  • Always try to exhaust dialog options with key crew members early on. You get XP for Codex Entries, and every bit helps!
  • Pay attention to the dialog wheel – top right is usually Paragon, bottom right is usually Renegade.
  • Don't be afraid to explore the ship a little as you go; you might find extra little bits of lore or conversation.
