Hunt Rathalos in Monster Hunter: World

The Rathalos shares many similarities with the Rathian, including its physical appearance and several attacks like the standing fireball (sometimes in a triple-fireball variant), the “pace-back-and-forth” attack, and standard bites and tail sweeps. However, the Rathalos's behavior differs significantly, primarily by staying airborne more frequently.

While in the air, the Rathalos performs flying charges, clawing dives, and breathes fire in both fireball and arc forms. It also uses a diagonal aerial tail swipe, which is less common than its vertical tail swipe, which it uses more relentlessly than the Rathian. Like the Rathian, it utilizes fire attacks and can inflict poison with its tail. Its lair is in AREA 16, and it often travels between AREAS 14 and 15.

Flash Pods are highly effective against the Rathalos due to its aerial nature. Equipping armor with Fire Resistance or Poison Resistance skills can also mitigate damage. The Rathalos is weak to Dragon element attacks and resistant to fire. Its weak points are its head, wings, and tail. The head is the most damage-receptive, while the tail is severable. Targeting its wings is also beneficial due to its frequent aerial maneuvers.
