Learn how to capture a Kulu-Ya-Ku in Monster Hunter: World with this guide. Includes preparation, crafting traps, and the best strategies for success.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Visit the Provisions Stockpile and buy at least two Trap Tools (200z each).
  2. 2
Gather Thunderbugs, Sleep Herbs, and Parashrooms in the Ancient Forest. Thunderbugs and Parashrooms can be found near the Northeast Camp. Sleep Herbs are abundant in the Wildspire Wastes (AREA 4 and AREA 9). Parashrooms can be found in AREA 5.
  3. 3
Interact with your Item Box and select “Crafting List” to craft at least one Shock Trap and at least two Tranq Bombs. Alternatively, obtain EZ versions from the Supply Box.
  4. 4
Travel to the Wildspire Waste. The Kulu-Ya-Ku lairs in a cave along the northwestern end of AREA 6.
  5. 5
Wear down the Kula-Ya-Ku until its icon shows a skull, indicating it is near death.
  6. 6
If the Kula-Ya-Ku heads to its lair, this is a sign it is hurt.
  7. 7
Once the Kula-Ya-Ku is weakened, deploy a Shock Trap near it on dry, stable ground.
  8. 8
Approach the trapped Kula-Ya-Ku and use one or two Tranq Bombs near its head to capture it.
Tips
  • Capturing monsters yields greater rewards than slaying them and requires less effort.
  • If the Kula-Ya-Ku is near death, it may flee to its lair. Follow it.
  • If the Kula-Ya-Ku refuses to retreat, drop the Shock Trap near it.
  • If the Kula-Ya-Ku flees to its lair and goes to sleep, you can use Tranq Bombs to weaken it before deploying a trap, as it is stationary while sleeping.
  • Ensure you are on a dry, stable surface to deploy traps; swamps are unsuitable.
  • You can carry two Trap Tools and some Thunderbugs to craft more Shock Traps on the go.
  • EZ versions of traps and bombs do not conflict with normal versions, allowing you to carry both.
  • If your Scoutfly Level is not three, watch the Kula-Ya-Ku's mannerisms to gauge its health, as you won't see a skull icon until it's near death.

Reward: 2520z. After completing the quest, find the Smart Biologist in Astera near the Ecological Research station to receive 500 Research Points. He will then give you the quest
