Walkthrough
- 1The First Barrier: Watch the introductory scenes. Attack Zorah Magdaros using cannons stationed around the area. Pick up cannonballs (press [Circle]/[B]), load them into cannons (up to five), and fire (press [Circle]/[B]). Aim cannons by moving adjacent to the barrel and pressing [Circle]/[B].
- 2Defend Against Barnos: When Barnos appear, arm a ballista by grabbing bolts and loading them. Mount the ballista and shoot down the Barnos to prevent them from interrupting your cannon fire. Continue attacking Zorah Magdaros with cannons until it reaches the barrier.
- 3Board Zorah Magdaros: After Zorah Magdaros breaches the barrier, head to the southeastern end of the artillery area, climb to the highest elevation, and interact with the Hitching Post to fly onto Zorah Magdaros's back.
- 4Destroy Magmacores: While on Zorah Magdaros, find and destroy the Magmacores. Be aware that you will take damage in their vicinity. Roll to extinguish fires if hit by their discharge.
- 5Gather Minerals: Before or after destroying Magmacores, explore Zorah Magdaros's back for mineral deposits (orange crystals). These can yield rare minerals like Zorah Magdaros Carapace and Dragonite Ore.
- 6Battle on the Beast: After destroying the Magmacores, make your way to the eastern end of Zorah Magdaros and watch the following cutscene. You will then face a large monster. Your goal is to survive its attacks by dodging and healing until support arrives.
- 7The Aftermath: After the Zorah Magdaros event concludes, you will return to Astera. The Commander will discuss the next steps and unlock the Great Ravine area. You will receive the Health Booster hunter's tool.
- 8Talk to NPCs: Speak with the Commander to learn that the monster that attacked you was Nergigante.
- 9New Quests: Go to the Botanical Research area and speak with the Laid Back Biologist to accept the quest Royal Relocation (hunt a Rathian). Speak with the Meowscular Chef to accept the quest Gettin’ Yolked in the Forest (collect Wyvern Eggs).
- 10Check the Armory: Visit the Armory to find new armor available.
