Learn how Mad Science Points affect MSA rank, experiment difficulty, and secondary ingredient quality in Monster Train.

Mad Science Points (MSA) determine your MSA rank. A higher MSA rank lowers the difficulty of experiments, though this may not be apparent as most experiments start at level one. Importantly, a higher MSA rank allows you to equip better parts on your monster. Ironically, if you craft a part that states you cannot equip it at your current rank, the points gained from crafting it will boost your MSA rank so you can equip it. Additionally, your MSA rank improves the quality of secondary ingredients you obtain when exploring.

Later in Monster Train, you will collect improved versions of secondary ingredients, such as Rusty Metal, Iron, Steel, and Titanium. These improved versions provide the same attribute as the original ingredient but for an upgraded version of the limb. For example, if Rusty Metal is used to create an Arm Canon with a Poisoning attribute, then Iron will be used to create a Poison Mega Buster, Steel a Poison X-Buster, and so on.

Tips
  • Focus on crafting parts, even those you cannot immediately equip, to boost your MSA rank.
  • Pay attention to the progression of secondary ingredients like Rusty Metal, Iron, Steel, and Titanium to craft more powerful upgraded limbs.
  • Experiment difficulty may not seem to change initially, but continued crafting will eventually make experiments easier.
