Your ultimate guide to conquering the Battle Tower in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire! Learn strategies, team compositions, and how to defeat the Frontier Brain, Anabel, for awesome rewards.

Alright, so you've heard about the Battle Tower, right? If you've played Pokémon Crystal, you'll know the drill. It's basically the ultimate challenge in Hoenn, located way up north. Just head north from the Pokémon Center, and you'll see some steps leading up to it. Easy to find!

Before you dive in, remember you need to register three of your best Pokémon. Here's a crucial rule: no two Pokémon can hold the same item. The trainers you face are totally random, so make sure your registered team is solid and covers a lot of bases. You'll need to defeat seven trainers in a row to start earning Battle Points. Keep that streak going, because after beating 34 trainers, you'll face the Frontier Brain, Anabel!

Anabel's First Battle Team

Her first team usually features:

  • Alakazam (Psychic) - Holding Bright Powder, knows Disable, Fire Punch, Ice Punch, Thunderpunch.
  • Entei (Fire) - Holding Lum Berry, knows Calm Mind, Fire Blast, Return, Roar.
  • Snorlax (Normal) - Holding Quick Claw, knows Belly Drum, Body Slam, Shadow Ball, Yawn.

Don't let Alakazam's move set fool you; it's missing Psychic! It relies on those elemental punches. Its defense is pretty weak, so if you have a Pokémon that can tank one hit, go for moves like Earthquake or Body Slam. Entei is also pretty manageable; a couple of Surfs should do it. If not, a Rock or Ground-type Pokémon will resist its attacks nicely. Snorlax is a bit of a curveball since it doesn't have Rest or Leftovers like usual. If it uses Belly Drum, that's actually good for you – it sacrifices half its health! After that, it'll hit hard with Body Slam and Shadow Ball, but you can counter it with something like Golem, which has great defense.

Beat Anabel the first time, and you'll snag the Silver Ability Symbol. Nice!

Anabel's Second Battle Team (Much Tougher!)

If you manage to beat 69 trainers in a row, you'll face Anabel again, and she's *way* tougher this time. Her team consists of:

  • Raikou (Electric)
  • Snorlax (Normal)
  • Latios (Dragon/Psychic)

Raikou is similar to Alakazam – fast with a strong special attack, but its defense is its weak spot. An Earthquake will take it down easily. For Snorlax, you can use the same strategy as before, or bring in a Pokémon with high defense like Hariyama. Latios is the real challenge here. It has super high special defense, so you'll need to hit it hard with Ice, Dragon, or Dark-type moves. If those don't work, use your strongest Physical Attacks, but avoid Earthquake since Latios has Levitate. Make sure you have a Pokémon with high Special Defense on your team too, just in case.

Defeating her the second time earns you the prestigious Gold Ability Symbol!
