Petalburg City

As soon as you arrive, the first thing you'll probably want to do is pop into the Pokémon Center right next to you. Get your team fully healed up, especially if you've had a rough journey getting here.

After that, head west out of the Pokémon Center. You'll see the Gym. Now, you can't actually challenge the Gym Leader yet – that's your dad, Norman, and he'll tell you you're not strong enough. Stick around though, because a key event happens here!

You'll be interrupted by a man, and then you'll head into the Gym. Your dad will check out your Pokémon. He'll explain that you need to train more before you can face him. Shortly after, a kid named Wally shows up. He really wants to catch a Pokémon, so your dad decides to help him out by lending him a Zigzagoon. You'll then need to go with Wally to Route 102 to help him catch his first Pokémon – a Ralts, which he somehow catches on his first try!

Once Wally has his Ralts and you're back in the Gym, he'll give the Zigzagoon back to Norman. After your dad finishes talking to you, leave the Gym. You'll meet a guy in sunglasses who's looking for talented trainers. After he takes off, keep heading west.

Route 104 and Petalburg Woods

West of Petalburg City, you'll find the path leading to Route 104. This route is your gateway to Petalburg Woods, which is a pretty straightforward forest area. You'll likely encounter some trainers here, so be ready for some battles and gain some experience.
