Decide your path in Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire! Choose between Route 110's wild Pokémon and trainers or the scenic Cycling Road. Get battle strategies and tips.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
As you enter Route 110, head north to find Professor Birch. He'll register himself on your Pokenav.
  2. 2
Continue north. If Team Aqua is blocking the path, you must first complete the Slateport Museum event by delivering goods to Captain Stern.
  3. 3
Once the path is clear, head east. You will encounter your rival, Brendan/May, for a battle.

Rival Battle Strategy:

  • If you chose Treecko: Your rival has Wingull (Water/Flying), Lombre (Water/Flying), and Combusken (Fire/Fighting). Use Electric or Rock attacks on Wingull. Use Flying or Poison attacks on Lombre. Use Flying or Psychic attacks on Combusken.
  • If you chose Torchic: Your rival has Lombre (Water/Grass), Slugma (Fire), and Marshtomp (Water/Ground). Use Flying or Poison attacks on Lombre. Use Water, Rock, or Ground attacks on Slugma. Use Grass attacks on Marshtomp.
  • If you chose Mudkip: Your rival has Slugma (Fire), Wingull (Water/Flying), and Grovyle (Grass). Slugma is weak to Water, Rock, or Ground. Wingull is weak to Electric or Rock. Grovyle is weak to Fire, Flying, Poison, Bug, or Ice.

Route 110 Wild Pokémon:

  • Poochyena (Common)
  • Electrike (Common) - Evolves into Manectric at Level 26. Decent Special Attack and Speed, but poor Special Defense.
  • Gulpin (Uncommon) - Evolves into Swalot. Average stats, can learn Sludge Bomb.
  • Minun (Uncommon) - Electric type. Weak on its own, but can boost Special Attack with Plusle in double battles.
  • Oddish (Uncommon) - Grass type. Evolves into Gloom, then Vileplume (with Leaf Stone) or Bellossom (with Sun Stone). Good Grass option.
  • Wingull (Uncommon) - Water/Flying type.
  • Plusle (Very Rare) - Electric type. Weak on its own, but can boost Special Attack with Minun in double battles.

Route 110 Trainers:

  • Pokefan Isabel & Kaleb (Team Battle): Plusle (L14), Minun (L14). Reward: $2240.
  • Collector Edwin & Guitarist Joseph (Team Battle): Nuzleaf (L14, Grass), Lombre (L14, Water/Grass), Electrike (L14, Electric), Voltorb (L14, Electric). Reward: $1288.
  • Psychic Edward & Triathlete Alyssa (Team Battle): Abra (L15, Psychic), Magnemite (L15, Electric/Steel). Reward: $960.
  • Fisherman Dale: Tentacool (L11, Water/Poison), Tentacool (L11, Water/Poison), Wailmer (L14, Water), Wailmer (L14, Water).
Tips
  • Electrike is a decent Electric-type early on, but its low Special Defense makes it vulnerable.
  • Oddish can evolve into strong Grass-types Vileplume or Bellossom, making it a good choice if you didn't pick Treecko.
  • Minun and Plusle are generally not worth the effort to catch due to their mediocre stats, despite their potential in double battles.
  • Pay attention to the types of Pokémon your rival uses and choose your counters wisely.
