Discover the Battle Frontier in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire! Learn about the Frontier Pass, Pokemart items, move tutors, Scott's prizes, and unique Pokémon encounters like Sudowoodo and Smeargle.

You can fly to the Battle Frontier. Upon entering the building, you'll receive a free Frontier Pass, which replaces a page on your Trainer Card but remains accessible. The Frontier Pass displays your Battle Points (BP), earned symbols, and a map of the Battle Frontier. Head north to a more open area, then east to find the Pokémon Center and Pokémart.

Pokémart Item Listing:

  • Calcium ($9800)
  • Carbos ($9800)
  • Full Heal ($600)
  • Full Restore ($3000)
  • HP Up ($9800)
  • Hyper Potion ($1200)
  • Iron ($9800)
  • Max Potion ($2500)
  • Max Repel ($700)
  • Protein ($9800)
  • Revive ($1500)
  • Ultra Ball ($1200)
  • Zinc ($9800)

Above the Pokémon Center and Pokémart are three houses. The house on the right features a man who discusses your top Pokémon's nature and its advantages. The house on the left has children who explain the Battle Frontier. To tour the area, start at the Pokémon Center, go west to find three paths leading north. Take the middle path north to some steps. To the left of the steps is a small house with two old ladies who teach moves in exchange for Battle Points.

Left Old Lady (48 BP unless noted):

  • Body Slam
  • Counter

Earning Battle Points through difficult battles is necessary to learn these moves.

From the move tutors' house, head up the stairs to reach the Battle Dome. Continue east to a small house where you'll find Scott. He awards prizes for accomplishments:

  • Winning 50 Battles: Silver Shield (decoration)
  • Winning 100 Battles: Gold Shield (decoration)
  • Win All Silver Symbols: Lansat Berry
  • Win all Gold Symbols: Starf Berry

East of Scott's house is a small building where a girl will trade you a Meowth for a Skitty. East of this girl's house, in front of the massive Battle Tower, head down the steps. To your left is a building where you can exchange Battle Points for items, dolls, and stat-boosting items.

East of this house, follow the path past a house containing your Battle Frontier records until you reach a pyramid. South of the pyramid is a small house in an alcove where you can gamble Battle Points if you have at least 3 Silver Symbols. Continue south to find an old lady near a Sudowoodo (Level 40). You'll need the Wailmer Pail from Route 104 to battle it. Sudowoodo is a Rock-type with good Attack and Defense. Knocking it out prevents another encounter, so wear it down and try to inflict sleep or paralysis for capture.

South of Sudowoodo's location, surf down a waterfall and then surf left to a platform with a cave entrance: the Artisan Cave. The only Pokémon here is Smeargle, which can copy moves using Sketch but has poor stats. It learns Sketch around every 11 levels.

If you need to exit the Artisan Cave without Waterfall, use Fly. If you don't have Fly, take the ladder in the northeast corner of the cave. Near the exit, grab the Carbos. Back outside, jump the ledge to return near the records house.
