Discover Verdanturf Town in Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire! Find items, learn Fury Cutter, check Pokémon happiness, and get HM04 Strength in this walkthrough.

Alright, welcome to Verdanturf Town! It's not the busiest place, but there are a few important things to grab here, most notably an HM. First up, let's check out the Pokemart.

Pokemart Items:

  • Antidote: $100
  • Awakening: $250
  • Burn Heal: $250
  • Fluffy Tail: $1000
  • Great Ball: $600
  • Ice Heal: $250
  • Nest Ball: $1000
  • Paralyze Heal: $200
  • Repel: $350
  • X Special: $350

Don't forget to pop into the Pokémon Center to heal up your team if they need it. You'll also find a little kid sitting by a table. If you talk to him, he can teach your Pokémon the move Fury Cutter. It's a Bug-type move that starts weak but gets stronger with consecutive hits. Just remember, if it misses or you don't use it for a turn, its power resets. It's a cool move to try out, but you'll probably want to swap it out later on.

There are three houses at the bottom of town. You can skip the one on the right. Head into the middle house, and you'll find Wally and his uncle. They'll mention Wally's feeling much better, probably thanks to all the fresh air here. Now, go into the house on the left. The woman inside can actually rate how happy your top Pokémon is. This is super handy if you've got Pokémon that evolve through happiness, like Azurill or Golbat, so you can keep an eye on them and see when they're ready to evolve.

Before we leave town, there's something important in the cave to the north, just to the left of the Pokemart. This leads back into the Rusturf Tunnel, but from the other side! Remember those rocks blocking the path earlier? You can now use Rock Smash to clear them. Talk to the man standing there, and he'll reward you with HM04, Strength! This is a crucial HM for pushing boulders around. After you get it, the man and his girlfriend will be reunited – pretty sweet!

Now, here's a little secret: before you head back out of the tunnel the way you came, go back towards the Verdanturf Town entrance. Follow the left path from there, and you'll find another exit. This leads outside where a guy is looking for his lost glasses. Use your Itemfinder to track them down – you'll find the Blackglasses, which boost the power of Dark-type moves when held. Right after that, head a bit to the right and grab the HP Up. It's a good idea to give this to the Pokémon with the lowest HP on your team.

With HM04 in hand and a few goodies collected, it's time to head back towards Mauville City. You'll need the next Gym Badge to use Strength outside of battle, so that's our next destination!
