Learn about Mario, Princess Peach, Toad, Yoshi, and Bowser in Super Mario 64. Get started with the introduction and first steps.

Characters:

Mario: The world's most popular plumber, usually teaming up with Luigi, but goes solo in Super Mario 64. He wears blue overalls, a red shirt, and a red cap, and has a thick moustache.

Toad: Found throughout the castle, Toad is trapped with Princess Peach and other hostages. He can provide Mario with useful gameplay tips and occasionally a secret star.

Princess Toadstool (AKA Peach): The ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom, kidnapped by Bowser. She sends Mario a letter inviting him to the castle for a cake, but is captured before he arrives, initiating the adventure.

Yoshi: Mario's faithful dinosaur friend. He appears only when you reach the roof with 120 stars, delivering a message from the Super Mario 64 Team and granting 100 lives and an enhanced triple jump.

Bob-Omb Buddy: These are friendly pink Bob-Ombs that talk and open cannons on courses when interacted with, offering helpful tips. They appear in areas like Bob-omb Battlefield.

Koopa The Quick: A giant Koopa Troopa met on the second course of Bob-omb Battlefield. He offers a star if you can beat him in a footrace.

Lakitu: Your personal cameraman, a turtle who follows Mario in a cloud with a video camera, recording movements. Lakitu's footage appears on screen. You can adjust the camera using the C buttons or turn Lakitu off by pressing R, though this is not recommended.

Bowser: The main villain of Super Mario 64. He invaded the castle, stole 105 Power Stars, hid them within paintings, and kidnapped Princess Toadstool. Your objective is to defeat him.

Introduction:

The game begins with Princess Peach reading a letter, followed by Lakitu, your cameraman, flying around the castle. Mario enters via a warp pipe for the cake. You start by walking towards the castle drawbridge. Lakitu appears and explains basic camera controls. Enter the castle.

Inside, a voice welcomes you and tells you to get lost. To your left, you find Toad, who explains that Bowser has trapped everyone within the castle walls, stolen all the Power Stars, sealed doors, and created his own worlds within paintings. As you collect more Power Stars, you can open sealed doors and access new areas. Your first objective is to enter the room with the Bob-omb painting on the first floor, which is not sealed. After collecting eight stars, you can open the large door with a huge star on it. Jump into the Bob-omb painting to begin.
