Advance past the three Goombas at the start.

Continue down the path until you reach a hole and perform a long jump (Z+A) to cross it.

Continue down the path to another hole and perform another long jump to cross.

Ignore the giant mushrooms on the platform to your left and continue down the path.

Advance past the moles that throw rocks at you.

Ignore the 3 Bob-ombs or defeat them for one coin each.

Continue down the path to a giant pink Bob-omb in an open area. You can pick it up from behind and throw it.

Advance to the narrow bridge on the other side of the open area and collect the 5 coins on it.

At the end of the bridge, jump to the platform with the monkey. Ignore the monkey as it will take your hat if picked up.

Go to the very right of this platform to find a large, stationary log.

Jump on the left side of the log to make it roll left. Run opposite the log to make it roll completely to the left.

Once the log rolls completely left, go to its far side and jump onto the new, small platform.

Jump to the adjacent platform and follow it to the right. This platform will rise.

Avoid the large steel balls rolling toward you on the rising platform; getting hit will cost two pieces of health.

After passing the steel balls, the platform will slope downwards, causing you to slide.

Once you stop sliding, go past the 3 Goombas.

Find a hidden 1-Up Mushroom at the beginning of the huge pit ahead.

Perform a long jump across the huge pit.

Quickly run past the cloud and collect the five coins.

Press yourself against the wall on the left side of where the 5 coins were until it shakes like a painting.

Jump into the shaking wall to enter a new area.

Walk directly ahead and fall down the large, long slide.

Watch for arrows pointing right; when you see them, take the right path at the fork in the slide to avoid dying.

Toward the end of the slide, ensure you have enough speed to clear the pit.

After the slide, drop down the hole to a small alcove in the mountain.

The star is directly in front of you. Grab it.

Tips

Be cautious of the moles throwing rocks.
The giant pink Bob-omb can be defeated by picking it up from behind and throwing it.
Do not pick up the monkey on the platform, or it will take your hat.
When the rising platform appears, steel balls will roll towards you; avoid them to prevent losing health.
Ensure you have enough speed on the slide to clear the final pit.
The secret wall that leads to the slide area is indicated by shaking when you press against it.
