Navigate the Aquinas Substation and engage the Wideband and Ultrawhite channels in Deus Ex. Choose between a quick, dangerous path or a safe, methodical approach to reach the Primary Router.
Walkthrough
- 1Locate the Security Terminal near the Router door.
- 2Quick Option: Travel northeast to the elevator leading to the Aquinas Substation. Upon opening the door, Page will detonate transformers. Use the Energy Shield Augmentation if available, then proceed north to the Security Terminal. Use the PAGE/UBERALLES command to open the Aquinas Router door. Heal and return to the elevator. Alternatively, you can shut down the hazard using an 80% Strength Control Panel to the west, which also allows looting a MULTITOOL, HAZMAT SUIT, BIOELECTRIC CELLS, and a MEDKIT.
- 3Safe Option: Return to the room with Page's plasma bubble and proceed south. Deal with turrets and the plasma EMP field. Climb a ladder, find a grate on the ground, and descend into the red pit. Open the grate to find crates with 30.06 AMMO and 10MM AMMO, and a DataCube containing the Aquinas Router code: 6765.
- 4Return to Page and the Aquinas Router door. Enter 6765 to open it. Note: In some versions (like Game of the Year Edition), the code may be 6188.
- 5With the door open, Helios will contact you to Engage the Wideband and Ultrawhite channels.
- 6Find the computer and use the ICARUS/PANOPTICON combo to Engage the Primary Router.
- 7Secondary Goal: Return to the Sector 3 Aquinas Hub to merge with Helios.
- 8Retrace your steps past Page's room to the west. Continue west past the cloning pods and a LOADING screen. Climb stairs towards the Aquinas Hub and take the elevator to level 3.
- 9Listen to Page and Helios before approaching Helios. The game ends when you get close to the machine.
Notes on Helios Ending:
- This ending fulfills Morpheus' prophecy of JC creating his own God, tying into Voltaire's idea of society's need for a divine role.
- It can be interpreted as Deus Ex advocating for a higher power in a world devoid of traditional religion, contrasting with Bob Page's self-deification.
- JC Denton can be seen as a messianic figure, merging with an all-powerful being after his 'death'.
- The Helios ending signifies JC shedding his humanity for a machine-like system, contrasting with individual liberty.
- Literary parallels include Ghost in the Shell (merging with an AI) and Colossus: The Forbin Project (an AI forcing peace). Colossus shares Greek naming conventions with other elements in Deus Ex and was an influence on the game's initial pitch.
Tips
- Energy Shield Augmentation can help mitigate damage from the exploding transformers in the quick path.
- If you choose the safe path, the DataCube provides the code 6765 for the Aquinas Router. Be aware of the potential 6188 code variation in some game versions.
- The ICARUS/PANOPTICON combo is required to Engage the Primary Router.
