Discover hidden mechanics and secrets in Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes, including Sakura's win poses, beating opponents, Spider-Man taunts, and clocktower stage interactions.

This section covers various gameplay secrets and mechanics in Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes.

Sakura's Win Pose Variations

Normally, Kei runs on-screen, trips, and falls while Sakura watches. However, if you perform a Hyper Combo, Variable Combination, or hit the opponent with Sakura's taunt during the battle, Kei will run up to Sakura and they will perform her LK dance moves. This trick also works in Hiyakeshita Sakura mode. The author is unsure if other factors can trigger the dance.

Beat Up Your Defeated Opponent

After defeating all opponents, press Start during your character's win pose to regain control. You can then attack the downed opponent, juggling them indefinitely. Hyper Combos and Delayed Hyper Combos can be used, but not those involving the PA and PB buttons.

Select Spider-Man's Taunts

Normally, Spider-Man's taunts are random. You can control the word bubble content by holding a direction and pressing the Taunt button (Chouhatsu, or LK + Start, or just Start in arcade):

  • Forward + Taunt: "C'mon pal!"
  • Back + Taunt: "Hey!"
  • Down + Taunt: "Do your job!"

This trick does not work for Venom.

Clocktower Stage Secrets

The clocktower stage displays the time set on your Dreamcast system menu. The tower on the far right can be toppled by knocking the last opponent into it. This can be achieved by:

  • Using a Hyper Combo that causes knockback, such as Captain Commando's Captain Sword.
  • Using a strong slamming move like Hulk's Gamma Tornado. Get into the corner and use Tornado; Hulk will throw the opponent into the tower.

Using a Hyper Combo or similar move may cause the background to change, preventing you from seeing the tower collapse. Special moves allow you to watch the tower crumble.

Gameplay Notes: The Life Gauge

Life gauges are at the top of the screen: the largest is for the active character, and the two smaller ones are for partners. Each character starts with 143 life points. As you take damage, you lose life points. When a character loses all life, they are defeated. At very low health, you take reduced damage.

There are two types of life loss: unrecoverable (transparent space) and recoverable (red extension of the gauge). Recoverable life can be refilled by switching out the character. While inactive, their gauge gleams, regaining small amounts of life until the red portion is refilled. Partner Assists and Variable Combinations pause healing but it resumes later. Switching in via Variable Attack, Variable Counter, or Delayed Hyper Combo removes the recoverable life bar entirely.

Omega Red's Death Factor, Shuma-Gorath's HK throw, and Thanos' Gauntlet Soul can damage enemies while also restoring recoverable life to the user.
