Explore the advantages and disadvantages of Hyper Armor in Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Learn which attacks are stopped, how it affects gameplay, and which characters possess this powerful ability.
Hyper Armor Explained:
Hyper Armor is a special ability that allows characters to ignore most incoming attacks, effectively wading through projectiles and weaker hits. While it prevents characters from being pushed back by most attacks, they can still be affected by stronger moves that cause knockback. Additionally, Hyper Armor users cannot be dizzied or Snapbacked, and the effect remains even when airborne.
Attacks Stopped by Hyper Armor:
- Amingo: Daichi no Kodomo (Tsukami), Shokubutsu no Okite
- Anakaris: Pharaoh Magic (doesn't keep you in place)
- Blackheart: His HK demons can't grab you
- Bulleta: Beautiful Memory
- Cable: Psi-Charge, Time Flip
- Captain America: Final Justice
- Captain Commando: Captain Strike
- Colossus: Giant Swing
- Felicia: Please Help Me, Dancing Flash
- Guile: Crossfire Assault
- Hulk: Gamma Tornado
- Jill Valentine: Ousen Shageki
- Jin Saotome: Saotome Crush, Blodia Vulcan, Saotome Cyclone
- Kobun: Engo Kougeki (Tsukami!)
- Marrow: Ride & Slash
- Morrigan: Darkness Illusion
- Nash: Crossfire Blitz
- Omega Red: Carbonadium Coil, Carbonadium Smasher
- Ruby Heart: Rafale Canon, Tour de Magie
- Sabretooth: Wild Fang, Berserker Claw X, Weapon X Dash
- Shuma-Gorath: Chaos Dimension
- Silver Samurai: Hyouga Ken (won't freeze)
- Sonson: Kingin no Hisago, POW
- Spider-Man: Web Ball, Web Throw, Ultimate Web Throw
- Spiral: Metamorphose (you can still move around)
- Thanos: Gauntlet Soul
- Tron Bonne: Shiki Dan, Chuushoku Rush
- Venom: Web Throw, Venom Web
- Wolverine: Weapon X
Specific Interactions:
- Spiral's Metamorphose allows her to move freely, but she cannot be hit out of it. Players can evade by jumping or falling out of the way.
- Silver Samurai's Hyouga Ken will not freeze a Hyper Armor user.
- Blackheart's Heart of Darkness still performs all hits, even if the user isn't lifted.
- Anakaris's Pharaoh Magic can be blocked at the end, even by characters like Mecha Zangief who can revert to their normal form to block.
- Sakura's Midare Zakura, an auto combo, functions normally against Hyper Armor users.
Weaknesses and Drawbacks:
- Hyper Armor users take increased damage from 'beam' supers, such as Captain Sword and Iron Man's Proton Cannon.
Characters with Hyper Armor:
- Colossus (during his Super Armor Hyper Combo)
- Kobun (during his King Kobun Hyper Combo)
- Silver Samurai (after using Touki "Koori" 3 times)
- Sonson (during her En'ou Hyper Combo)
- Mecha Zangief (at all times)
- Rogue (can steal it from characters with the ability)
- Abyss (in all three forms)
Charge Move Tricks:
There are two useful tricks for performing charge moves:
- Button Hold Input: For moves requiring a 'down, then up' charge, you can hold the button and input the directional command. For example, holding K and charging down, then pressing up will execute Guile's Somersault Kick. This can save a fraction of a second and help differentiate between similar charge moves. This trick does not work for horizontal charge moves. For Hulk's Gamma Charge, a second Kick press is needed for the second attack.
- Movement Before Charge: For 'back, then forward' charge moves, you can charge back, then walk forward a step or two before executing the move. This allows characters like Shuma-Gorath to hit with Mystic Stare from closer range. Alternatively, you can stand still and then input the command. This also allows for inserting command attacks before special moves if they use the opposite button. For example, charge back, press forward and HK for Guile's Reverse Spin Kick, then press P for another move.
