Learn how to perform a Snapback Attack in Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes, costing one level of HC power, and discover the unique taunt mechanics.
- 1To perform a Snapback, input a fireball motion (quarter-circle forward) plus either the Primary Assist button (PA) or the Secondary Assist button (PB). This costs one level of HC (Hyper Combo) power.
- 2Your character will pause and perform an attack, often a standing Hard Punch or Hard Kick, surrounded by flashing lights.
- 3If the attack hits, the opponent flies off-screen. If you used PA, their first partner will fly in; if you used PB, their second partner will fly in.
- 4After a Snapback hits, you must wait for a red 'X' mark over the snapped character's life gauge (health bar) to vanish before you can call that character back in. This keeps the snapped character off-screen longer, delaying any recoverable life (health that can regenerate) from starting its healing process.
- 5Although Snapbacks do very little damage, most characters can combo them off a normal attack or command attack, similar to a special move.
- 6Use Snapbacks to finish off opponents with low life who switch out, or to prevent powerful characters from recovering life by knocking them away each time they enter the screen.
- 7You can Snapback an opponent even if they have no partners remaining; they will simply take the small amount of damage and be knocked back.
- 8If an opponent has two partners out and you Snapback one, then Snapback the other, the first snapped partner will return to the fight, effectively wasting your previous Snapback. To keep both partners out, use qcf + PA once and qcf + PB next (or vice versa).
- Consider how characters' Hyper Combos (HCs) will work together in a Variable Combination (a special combo involving assists) for potentially extreme damage. For example, an Anakaris-Juggernaut-Iron Man combination preceded by a 5-hit ground chain by Anakaris (standing LP, LK, MP, MK, forward Tenchuu) yielded a maximum of 141 points of damage.
- Snapbacks are useful for finishing off opponents or preventing them from recovering life.
- To ensure both of your opponent's partners are kept out of commission, be sure to use qcf + PA and qcf + PB sequentially.
Taunting
Taunting (Chouhatsu) allows you to perform character-specific animations. The input varies by version: on Dreamcast, press Start + LK or MK; on arcade, press Start. You can also hold Start and press LK or MK. Taunts can be assigned to a button.
- Dreamcast version: Press Start + LK or MK.
- Arcade version: Press Start.
- Alternatively: Hold Start, then press LK or MK.
- Taunts can be assigned to a button.
- 1Perform the taunt input for your version.
- 2Note that you cannot move, defend, or attack during a taunt.
- 3You can cancel out of any normal move or command attack into a taunt.
- 4Dan's taunt moves grant him HC (Hyper Combo) power, except for his Chouhatsu Densetsu HC. He can also taunt in the air and has two rolling taunts.
- 5Chun-Li, Psylocke, Rogue, Sakura, and Hiyakeshita Sakura have 'hittable' taunts that deal 1 point of damage if they connect. These taunts do no damage if blocked.
- 6Hittable taunts can be canceled into Hyper Combos and cannot kill an opponent.
- 7If a hittable taunt hits an opponent with recoverable life, they lose that recoverable life.
- 8Once an opponent has no normal or recoverable life left, taunting has no effect on their life, though they will still be knocked back.
- 9Most hittable taunts (except Psylocke's) will knock an enemy back, similar to many characters' Flying Attacks.
Arcade / Dreamcast Differences

- The character Kobun is called 'Servbot' in the Dreamcast version.
- Character unlock order and default lineups differ between the arcade and Dreamcast versions.
- Some glitches are exclusive to either the arcade or Dreamcast version.
- Morrigan's launcher is a crouching HP on Dreamcast, but on arcade, her crouching HP is the Mysterious Arc. To access her launcher on arcade, you must use df + HP.
