3-star Key Quests: Part Two

Complete 3-star key quests in monster hunter generations: hunt Yian Kut-Ku, Daimyo Hermitaur, and deliver Abyssal Mushrooms.

Stomping Grounds

Objective: Hunt a Yian Kut-Ku

Location: Jurassic Frontier

Subquest: Deliver 2 Ancient Berries

Notes: Yian Kut-Ku is a flying monster found in area 5. Bring Paintballs to track it. It can spit fireballs; if your armor is weak to fire, be careful. Roll three times or roll once in water to get rid of Fireblight, or consume a Nulberry. Completing this quest and “Crustacean Frustration” unlocks the key quest “Tumultuous Sprouts”.

Crustacean Frustration

Objective: Hunt a Daimyo Hermitaur

Location: Dunes

Subquest: Slay 8 Hermitaurs

Notes: Daimyo Hermitaur is a Carapaceon that wields water. Bring Cool Drinks and Nulberries for Waterblight. It is found in area 3. Its skull resembles a Monoblos skull. Aim for its soft body as its shell is hard and will bounce most weapons.

Tumultuous Sprouts

Objective: Deliver 8 Abyssal Mushrooms

Location: Jurassic Frontier

Subquest: None

Notes: You are dropped into area 11. A powerful monster, Glavenus, is present. It is recommended to leave immediately. With patience, skill, or overpowered gear, you can capture or kill Glavenus, but it is not recommended for solo campaign gear. Future runs may feature Tetsucabra or Great Maccao. Completing this quest unlocks the remainder of your key quests.

The Desert Gourmand

Objective: Hunt a Nibelsnarf

Location: Dunes

Subquest: Wound Nibelsnarf’s front legs

Notes: Travel to area 7 to find Nibelsnarf. Place a barrel bomb from the supply box in its path; it will eat it and explode. To fish Nibelsnarf out of the sand, put your weapon away and press A, then rotate the left circle pad quickly. This allows you to fulfill the subquest and deal damage. Use a paintball to track Nibelsnarf as it can use the sand to cross areas.

Current Events

Objective: Hunt a Royal Ludroth

Location: Deserted Island

Subquest: Slay 8 Ludroth

Notes: Complete “Tumultuous Sprouts” to unlock this key quest. Royal Ludroth is in area 10. The subquest of slaying 8 Ludroth will likely happen naturally as Royal Ludroth constantly spawns them. Both Royal Ludroth and smaller Ludroth can cause Waterblight.

Robbed Blind

Objective: Hunt a Gypceros

Location: Marshlands

Subquest: Wound Gypceros’s crest

Notes: Complete “Tumultuous Sprouts” to unlock this key quest. Gypceros is in area 8. It can stun you with a flash from its crest or poison you. If Gypceros leans forward and its crest flickers, it is about to flash. A shield can block this, as can the Hunting Art “Absolute Evasion”, the Bushido perfect evade, or panic diving. This quest is in the Marshlands. Gypceros can fly away, so use a Paintball.

URGENT: The Nocturnal Enchanter

Objective: Hunt a Malfestio

Location: Jurassic Frontier

Subquest: Wound the Malfestio’s head

Notes: Malfestio is a Bird Wyvern that can put you to sleep and reverse your movement controls with powder. If you have a big green question mark on your head, run towards Malfestio to escape. Malfestio is in area 4. When tired, it sleeps on a tree branch, which only a Gunner can reach.
