You'll know he's special because of his unique battle music – it's a real clue that this fight is going to be different. Think of him as a Yian Kut-Ku that went to finishing school and learned some serious Rathian moves and attitude.

Yian Garuga can do a lot: he'll charge, spit fireballs, use his wings to create a sonic blast that'll make you flinch (unless you have Earplugs!), and he can even backflip. The worst part? His tail is poisonous. Seriously, any tail attack that connects will poison you. Unlike a Rathian's tail swing, Yian Garuga's tail is a constant poison threat.

He's also a fire fiend, much like the Yian Kut-Ku, but way more skilled. He's mastered using his beak to extend his attack range, so don't get too comfortable. If you see him start to dive bomb and bury his head in the ground, you better start running!

Important Note: Pitfall Traps won't work on Yian Garuga; he's too smart for them. Your best bet is to hit him with Water element attacks, as he's weakest to them.

Yian Garuga's Attacks and How to Handle Them

• Side Chomp: He'll lunge and snap to his left. It's usually easy to dodge, but watch out! His tail might swing up and catch you, poisoning you.
• Triple Peck: He charges and pecks the ground. If he's tired, he might slam his head down and get stuck.
• Fireball Spit: He'll spit fire from a distance. It's more dangerous than the Yian Kut-Ku's version.
• Fireball Charge: He runs forward, spitting fireballs left and right as he goes. Keep your distance!
• Tail Whip: This is a nasty double 180 tail swing. If it hits, you'll be damaged and poisoned. Seriously, avoid this at all costs.
• Double Peck: He jumps up and slams his beak down twice. Be careful, because due to some weird hitbox stuff, his whole body can deal full damage, even if you're not near the beak itself.
• Back Hop: He hops backward to create space. If you're too close when he lands, the wind pressure alone can make you flinch.
• Sonic: He'll flap his wings and beak to create a loud sonic blast. This will make you flinch without Earplugs. If he's enraged, he loves to follow this up immediately with a Charging Backflip.
