Learn how to catch Pokémon on Poco Path in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Follow our guide to battle, catch Lechonk, and progress through the early game.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
As you enter Poco Path, Nemona will teach you about catching Pokémon.
  2. 2
You’ll be thrown into a battle with a Level 3 Lechonk.
  3. 3
Use your damaging moves to weaken the Lechonk until it has under half HP, but do not KO it.
  4. 4
Once Lechonk is weak, press the X button and select a Poké Ball.
  5. 5
With luck, the Lechonk should stay in the ball.
  6. 6
Afterwards, you’ll receive an extra 10 Poké Balls from Nemona.
  7. 7
To catch a Pokémon, you first need to battle them. You can do so by touching them on the field.
  8. 8
Alternatively, press the ZR button when near and facing a wild Pokémon to throw your Pokémon at them, triggering a battle. This is the only way to battle Pokémon in the air.
  9. 9
If you throw a Pokémon at a wild Pokémon when they’re facing away from you, they’ll be stunned during the first turn of battle.
  10. 10
Your goal is the lighthouse towards the north-east. Simply follow the path to reach it.
  11. 11
When you’re halfway to the lighthouse, near Inlet Grotto, Nemona will catch up to you.
  12. 12
A loud noise will come from the direction of Inlet Grotto.
  13. 13
Head towards the narrow side path, through the gap in the fence, just past where Nemona is standing.
  14. 14
You’ll spot the source of the noise all the way down and accidentally slip.
  15. 15
Approach the collapsed Pokémon by the water.
  16. 16
When it regains its strength, follow it inside Inlet Grotto.
Tips
  • You can hold the ZL button to lock onto nearby wild Pokémon. Use the right stick to focus on a Pokémon. After locking on, you can move the right stick left/right to focus on a different Pokémon and lock onto them.
  • Locking on will display the Pokémon’s Level, which is useful to gauge if you stand a fighting chance.
  • Spend a bit of time catching some of the Pokémon here, as there are many.
  • There are also lots of item balls (shaped like Poké Balls) dotted around, containing items.
