How to Defeat Normal Gym Leader Larry (Rematch)

Learn how to defeat Gym Leader Larry in his rematch in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Discover his team, recommended Pokémon, and effective strategies to win.

You can rematch Larry after completing the Area Zero story and visiting the Director’s Office at Naranja/Uva Academy. Geeta will ask you to visit the eight gyms of Paldea in her place, as part of an inspection. During this time, you can challenge the gym leaders at their full power!

Larry still uses Normal types, so we recommend bringing a couple of Fighting types. Plus an Electric type for good measure. His Pokémon are all Level 65-66, so your Pokémon should be Level 65+ to match.

Stats / Weaknesses:

• Larry's Pokémon are all Level 65-66.
• Normal, Flying, and Tera Normal types are used.
• Fighting and Electric types are super-effective against Larry's team.

Phases:

1. Oinkologne (Level 65, Normal): Uses Body Slam, Zen Headbutt, Bullet Seed, Iron Head. Fighting types are recommended.
2. Komala (Level 65, Normal): Uses Sucker Punch, Zen Headbutt, Wood Hammer, Yawn. Fighting types are recommended.
3. Braviary (Level 65, Normal/Flying): Uses Crush Claw, Brave Bird, Close Combat, Rock Tomb. Electric types are recommended to counter Brave Bird.
4. Dudunsparce (Level 65, Normal): Uses Hyper Drill, Drill Run, Stone Edge, Dragon Rush. Fighting types are recommended.
5. Staraptor (Level 66, Normal/Flying, Tera Type: Normal): Uses Facade, Brave Bird, Close Combat, Thief. Fighting types are super-effective, but be cautious of STAB Brave Bird.

Strategy:

• Recommended Pokémon: Level 75 Tera Lucario (Dalizapa Passage), Koraidon (Scarlet), Sandy Shocks (Scarlet, Area Zero), Iron Hands (Violet, Area Zero).
• Fighting types are generally the best choice due to type advantage.
• Electric types are effective against Braviary and can help mitigate damage from Brave Bird.
• Ensure your Pokémon are at least Level 65 to match Larry's team.
• Lucario can handle most of Larry's team, but be mindful of its weaknesses against certain moves like Drill Run and Close Combat.
