How to Defeat Bug Gym Leader Katy

To effectively battle Bug Gym Leader Katy in pokemon scarlet and violet, assemble a team with Pokémon that have an advantage against Bug-types. Rock, Flying, and Fire-type Pokémon are excellent choices as they deal double damage (super effective).

If you chose Fuecoco as your starter, it will be very effective in this gym.

Other recommended Pokémon that can be found on the way to the Bug Gym include:

Starly: A Normal and Flying-type Pokémon found near the South Province (Area Two) Pokémon Center.

Fletchling: Another Normal and Flying-type Pokémon found near the Cortondo (East) Pokémon Center.

Diglett with Rock tera-type (random occurrence): Found near the entrance, this Pokémon can have a Rock tera-type, which is a great advantage. A Rock tera-type Diglett will know Rock Tomb, a powerful Rock-type move, and is typically around Level 17.

If you catch Pokémon near Cortondo, ensure you level them up to at least the recommended Gym level, as they may be lower.

Avoid using Pokémon that are weak to Bug-types, such as Grass, Psychic, and Dark types. If you chose Sprigatito as your starter, it's best to keep it out of this fight.

Gym Leader Katy’s Pokémon are:

Nymble (Level 14, Bug-type)

Tarountula (Level 14, Bug-type)

Teddiursa (Level 15, Normal-type with Bug tera-type)

Nymble is a common Bug-type that should not pose a significant threat if you use Pokémon with Rock, Fire, or Flying-type moves. Nymble's Struggle Bug can lower your Sp. Attack, but it's generally not a major threat.

Tarountula is the next Pokémon in Katy’s lineup. Similar to Nymble, it can be easily defeated with Pokémon that have an advantage against Bug-types.

When Katy uses Teddiursa, she will immediately terastallize it into a Bug tera-type. This Normal-type Pokémon will use Fury Cutter, which is stronger due to its Bug tera-type. If you use Pokémon that deal double damage to Bug-types, you will inflict super effective damage on this terastallized Teddiursa.
