Learn how to evolve Applin into Dipplin in pokemon scarlet and violet's Teal Mask DLC. Find Applin in Apple Hills and buy Delicious Syrupy Apples for $500.
How To Get Applin
Head west from Mossui Town to reach Apple Hills, a large Apple Orchard. Applin can be found hopping around in the tall grass or falling from apple trees. Approach one and try using a Quick Ball. Alternatively, use a strong Pokémon with False Swipe and a status-altering move like Thunder Wave to capture one.
How To Get Dipplin
Once you have an Applin, travel to the south-east corner of the map to a small farm building. Next to it, you'll find an honesty box shop selling “Delicious Syrupy Apples” for $500 each. Purchase one and give it to your Applin to trigger its evolution into Dipplin, complete with a unique animation.
The Best Dipplin Competitive Build
Here are a couple of competitive builds for Dipplin:
- Bulky Special Defense
- Level: 100
- Tera Type: Steel
- Nature: Sassy
- Ability: Sticky Hold
- Held Item: Eviolite
- Moveset: Dragon Breath, Giga Drain, Infestation, and Recover
- Base Stats: HP: 80, Attack: 80, Defense: 110, Sp. Atk: 95, Sp. Def. 80, Speed: 40
- EVs: HP: 252, Defense: 4, Sp. Def: 252
- IVs: HP: 31, Attack: 0, Defense: 31, Sp. Atk: 31, Sp. Def. 31, Speed: 31
This build focuses on Special Defense, using Steel Tera Typing to cover (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects) weaknesses. Dragon Breath can spread paralysis (30% chance), Infestation deals damage over five turns, Giga Drain heals HP, and Recover restores health. Eviolite boosts Defense and Sp. Defense by 50%, and the Sassy nature increases Sp. Defense at the cost of speed. Sticky Hold prevents item loss and can increase capture rates when fishing.
- Withdraw Defender
- Level: 100
- Tera Type: Steel
- Nature: Sassy
- Ability: Sticky Hold
- Held Item: Eviolite
- Moveset: Gyro Ball, Infestation, Recover, and Withdraw
- Base Stats: HP: 80, Attack: 80, Defense: 110, Sp. Atk: 95, Sp. Def. 80, Speed: 40
- EVs: HP: 252, Defense: 252, Sp. Def: 4
- IVs: HP: 31, Attack: 31, Defense: 31, Sp. Atk: 31, Sp. Def. 31, Speed: 0
This build turns Dipplin into a physical defender. Eviolite boosts Defense by 50%, and using Withdraw a couple of times makes it very difficult to damage. Gyro Ball is more powerful when Dipplin is slower than the opponent, which is often the case. Infestation works in the background to deplete HP, and Recover keeps Dipplin healthy. This build works well with a Trick Room team, allowing Dipplin to attack first due to its low speed stat.
