The Basics: Breeding 2

To breed Pokémon, you generally need a male and a female Pokémon. Pokémon lay Eggs to produce baby Pokémon.

Breeding is the most certain way to guarantee ideal stats and movesets for your Pokémon.

Progress through the game until you reach Route 7. After events at Route 7 and Parfum Palace, you can access the majority of the route past a large bridge.

Just beyond the bridge is the Pokémon Daycare. You can leave two Pokémon there.

Beginners often leave Pokémon at the Daycare for leveling up, earning 1 EXP per step. Retrieving Pokémon costs $100 base plus $100 per level earned. Note that moves cannot be dictated, and level-up evolutions do not occur.

To breed, leave two Pokémon of opposite genders at the Daycare. Pokémon without a gender mark generally cannot breed.

There is a chance to receive an Egg by speaking with the man outside the Daycare after leaving compatible Pokémon.

The Pokémon within the Egg can inherit IVs (influencing stat growth), Nature (providing a 10% bonus/loss to some stats), some moves, and species.

To hatch an Egg, carry it in your party and walk, bike, or skate. Eggs can hatch in 5,000 to 31,000 steps, depending on the species.

Having Pokémon with the Magma Armor or Flame Body abilities in your party can speed up the hatching process.
