Learn about Effort Values (EVs) in Pokémon X and Y, how they affect stat growth, and the Super Training mini-game to boost your Pokémon's stats. Includes EV-boosting items and training courses.

EVs Explained:

Effort Values (EVs) are semi-hidden stats that determine stat growth. They are earned through Pokémon battles or Super Training. Each Pokémon defeated grants EVs, which can be shared via the Exp. Share. EV-Boosting Items and certain Berries (or Lumiose Juice Shoppe) can also affect EV gains. There are six stats to which EVs are applied: HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed. A single stat can have a maximum of 252 EVs. The total EV limit across all stats is 510. Reaching the maximum EVs grants an Effort Ribbon and unlocks Secret Super Training.

The formula for stat increases from EVs is: (Total EVs / 4) * (Level / 100), truncated, added to the base stat value.

EV-Boosting Hold Items:

  • Macho Brace: Doubles EV growth, but lowers Speed.
  • Power Anklet: Doubles Speed EV growth, but lowers Speed.
  • Power Band: Doubles Special Defense EV growth, but lowers Speed.
  • Power Belt: Doubles Defense EV growth, but lowers Speed.
  • Power Bracer: Doubles Attack EV growth, but lowers Speed.
  • Power Lens: Doubles Special Attack EV growth, but lowers Speed.
  • Power Weight: Doubles HP EV growth, but lowers Speed.

Super Training Courses:

Courses are unlocked by level, with higher levels offering greater EV boosts. Secret Super Training courses are unlocked after a Pokémon reaches 510 EVs and offer valuable items as rewards.
